We will face the current group leaders at National Arena in Bucharest on November 14th, 2014. Whoever wins gets within an inch of qualification. A draw would be better for the away side than for Romania.
A change in management could cause some issues but it was surely worth getting rid of Piturca, and now we could finally see some deserving players return to, or get their first caps for, the national team.
Quite surprisingly, the small country of less than 2 million people have had the better of the head-to-head results in the past, though Romania won the most recent of the match-ups:
12 Sep 1984 Northern Ireland v Romania L 3-2 WCQ
16 Oct 1985 Romania v Northern Ireland L 0-1 WCQ
23 Mar 1994 Northern Ireland v Romania L 2-0 Friendly
26 May 2006 Romania v Northern Ireland W 2-0 Friendly
Buga and D. Niculae scored in the first 11 minutes of that game.
My 23-man squad for the game:
3. Lung Jr
14. Bourceanu (if fit) / Anton (if Bou is not fit)
*(if he wants to return after everything; if not, call Moti/Luchin)
Guys like Marc, Manea, Moti, Cretu, Bicfalvi, Stanciu, and Bus should be tried in the Denmark friendly.
