Romania-Turkey: The Do or Die Match (and We Died),Version 2013

Let's see if our boys can do something twice in 4 days.

Probably a tie is enough for reaching the "baraj" but a win might be enough to be seeded for the play-offs, which would mean avoiding Croatia and Portugal in the play-offs.

Probable team:

Tatarusanu
Matel-----Chiri-------Goian-----Rat
Hoban-----Pintilii
Torje-------Maxim-------Tanase
Marica

Stancu instead of Maxim or Tanase is possible too.

Stancu should be benched with Tanase replacing him in the 1st eleven. ASAP! He is in a great form.

I still have my doubts regarding Torje, Goian and Hoban. Hungary isn't Turkey and will be infinitely harder. Especially that they changed the coach, a shock which certainly did them only good.

Tatarusanu- Rat,Chiriches,Goian,Matel- Pintilii, Hoban - Tanase,Maxim,Torje - Marica

Sad that we don't have Nistor.

Frankly I don't understand your comment, STF.

Are you saying Terim's bad?

That's nice, but to avoid France would be even nicer.

Yes, no chance vs France. Zero. Because Platini.

We are actually 1 spot behind France ATM.
If we manage to win against Turkey, we will be probably seeded, but we would still got a chance to face France...But I think Platini will give them an easier opponent

Oops, LOL.
Yes,we are haha. I was thinking about the non-seeded, I don't know why.
But reading reactions from the french fans, France is playing absolutely nothing, and they are pissed on Deschamps. Looks like he's some kind of Piturca to their national team...
Anyways France is not Spain or Germany right know.... we would have 15% chances maybe lol

Nope, about 35% on the pitch, but 0% actual chances

Platini will ensure some penalties in the last 10 minutes of the double if we're leading mwahahaha. 3 if necessary, no problem... and 10 minutes of extra-time

Too soon to think in the play-off seedings. First let's try to assure the 2nd place with most points as possible.

Currently this is the situation:

Romania 13
Hungary 11
Turkey 10

I guess Hungary will beat Estonia on Tuesday and Andorra in their last game. That means they'll get 17 points at the end. 18 if they somehow make the miracle of drawing in Holland.

We'll win in Andorra and very probably in Bucharest against Estonia. That makes 19 points, plus the points we can get against Turkey on Tuesday.

Turkey can only reach 19 points, and that's possible only by beating both Romania and Holland, which is difficult.

So even losing with Turkey, we have a good chance of making the 2nd place. Especially if it's not a defeat by a big margin. I say making the 2nd place, not exactly making the play-off. Of course, it's much better if we get points against Turkey. If we win on Tuesday the 2nd place will be 99% ours.

On Tuesday night maybe Hungary is back to the 2nd place btw. But it will be only a temporary delusion.

As I said before, we should have at least 20 points to be sure of a play-off spot. If Turkey beats us and Holland they are through (basically).

We will see.

I think that a draw on Tuesday is enough to be 99% sure of the 2nd place BTW (assuming we beat Estonia and Andorra). Hungary can theoretically tie the Dutch... But they won't lose at home.

They need to win in Estonia too. We'll reach 19 points only by winning in Andorra and against Estonia. They have the worst schedule out of the three teams battling for the second place. And even winning all of their games, all will depend of the goal-difference against us (theorically).

About the play-off I'd say that 4 points against Turkey and Estonia will be enough (the points against Andorra won't count). Bulgaria and Norway are in a bad position. But it's difficult to say because the last placed teams in some groups can change, and that can change the situation.

Romania is the European NT with more players with 1 goal scored in these qualifiers.

8 different players have scored exactly 1 goal for Romania (Mutu, Maxim, Gaman, Tanase, Lazar, Chipciu, Pintilii and Grozav). Chipciu's and Grozav's were especially important.

The predicted UEFA play-off setting at the moment:
pot 1: Croatia, Portugal, Sweden, Romania
pot 2: Ukraine, France, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Norway
(Bulgaria out as worst runner-up)
"
-Football-rankings.info

That would be pretty nice! And except France, these are all teams that we could win against.... But Ukraine and Bosnia are two strong teams... as for Norway, they're way too inconstant, you don't know what to expect from them.

**** come on, if Estonia can have Holland on the ropes, why can't Romania have a chance against a bunch of Africans?

Because Platini... 3 made-up penalties and 10 extra-time minutes for sure if we're winning at that point

What a difference compared to the times when Mutu was scoring 75% of our goals.
