Friendly: Australia - Romania

Estadio Ciudad de Málaga

Wednesday 6 February (21:45)

Romanian squad:

GKs: Tatarusanu, Pantilimon, Lung.

Defenders: Luchin, Tamas, Goian, Chiriches, D.Grigore, Gaman, Radu, Rat.

Midfielders: Bourceanu, Pintilii, Nistor, Lazar, Torje, Maxim, Tanase, Chitu.

Strikers: Grozav, Rusescu, Alexe, Stancu.

Piturca seems to be in love with Dragos Grigore.

It's the first game in history between Australia and Romania.

Hello.

How would you describe the state of Romanian football at the moment? Are you developing many good talents? Australia had a sort of "golden period" of sorts when we produced the likes of Kewell, Viduka, Cahill, Bresciano, Neill, Schwarzer, etc. but since then the talent stocks rather dried up for us. We're looking to bounce back and develop a new generation of talent. The current Socceroos set-up has been stagnating for some years now and needs a desperate injection of fresh new talent, rather like you can see with Japan and the talent they've been developing. There are some signs of hope, with some promising talent coming through the A-League and doing well in foreign leagues, like the Fortuna Dusseldorf winger Robbie Kruse - he scored twice on the weekend vs. Stuttgart, he's one of our brightest prospects at the moment.

Romania is trying to 'install' a new and promising generation, mostly from the local league. But for now it's that, only promising. There will be a few experiments in this friendly; we have many hopes in Maxim, recently signed by Stuttgart.

How is Hagi Gligor doing?

Well, because this match is a friendly, I think we'll see a similar kind of experimentation on behalf of Australia, too. This is where some fans have felt frustrated with the coaching staff in charge of the Socceroos - they don't have the guts to take a risk and play many of our young talents in WC Qualifiers, and the likes of Tom Rogic, Adam Sarota, Ryan McGowan, etc. are mainly given opportunities in these friendly matches, but not in the really important qualifiers themselves. Our squad desperately needs to be freshened up as a lot of the key members are old and getting older.

NoName - sorry, I have no idea!

Romanian fans feel frustrated with the coach in charge of the Tricolori by multiple reasons.

What's doing D.Grigore there? And why Chitu and not Stoian? I mean, Chitu already played against Poland, why not a chance here for Stoian?

I predict something like this:

--------------------------Tatarusanu
--------------Goian-----------------------Chiriches
Luchin----------------------------------------------------Rat
-----------------Bourceanu---------Pintilii/Lazar
---Torje-------------------Rusescu-----------------Tanase/Maxim
----------------------------Stancu

The only player I am familiar with there is Razvan Rat, after watching him play in CL for Shakhtar.

Some people have said Arsenal are interested in Torje, no idea if that's true.

Something like this, yeah. We definitely need either a Lazar or a Nistor there, unless we want Rusescu to construct.

Also, can we get a good RB next time? Like Sapunaru?

Due to a light injury in his knee, Rusescu will miss this game.

Maybe Grozav & Stancu in attack.

The guy remained impressed by Romanian footballers though: "They are remarkable players, very technical. Maybe the most technical I've ever seen."

I don't mind Grozav, but I'd've liked to seen Rusescu.

No point to force him for a friendly though.

Also, Radut was added to the squad after Rusescu's injury.

GKs: Tatarusanu, Pantilimon, Lung.

Defenders: Luchin, Tamas, Goian, Chiriches, D.Grigore, Gaman, Radu, Rat.

Midfielders: Bourceanu, Pintilii, Nistor, Lazar, Radut, Torje, Maxim, Tanase, Chitu.

Strikers: Grozav, Alexe, Stancu.

I predict Tatarusanu, Luchin, Goian, Chiriches, Radu, Torje, Bourceanu, Lazar, Maxim, Grozav and Stancu will start.

Oh, he's *finally* testing Tamas and Rat?

Phew, I thought we'd never see them play in the NT shirt... What an important debut for them.

I don't trust that team: DFs and GK particularly.

How can he not play Radu when he's available every 10 years...

So true.

I was excited to see Rusescu in the NT, then he got injured in training as usual. I'm starting to think those injuries in training are just punishment from the coach when a player shows up hung over.

Tricolor pina la moarte!

We all know what Goian and Tamas can do...why not Radu from the start and Goian and Tamas get both 1 HT?! or instead of Rat...

Radu was called-up as LB I think. As CBs we already have Gaman and Grigore in the bench.

You shouldn't be so bad intentioned. Rusescu got injured in a friendly with Steaua, and not in a training session.
