I'm not sure if this deserves it's own thread, but why not? I haven't started one in a while!
And someone please edit the title, apparently time stands still for me
Romania A-Turkmenistan on the 27th
and Romania A-Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih (forgive my spelling) on the 31st
The first game of the year with Turkmenistan. A quote from Gazeta about this lovely nation:
"Economie - Produce circa 75 miliarde metri cubi de gaz pe an"
"Economy - Produces about 75 billion cubic meters of gas per year"
That about tells you what you need to know--petrodollars. Also, what is more interesting but hardly mentioned anywhere (an interesting read, really worth the 5 minutes):
He named January and a city after himself (Turkmenbashi), and bread after his mother IIRC. The country is of course, a dictature, so no one opposed, and enjoyed the little Saparmurat Niyazov's mother they could get.
Also, dogs were banned from Ashgabat (the capital) because they "stunk". Since I have long hair, I'd probably not be welcomed in the country--if any of you have beards, that's not good either.
It's not all bad--he quit smoking in 1997, so the whole country had to--at least in public.
Yes, that's right--Niyazov was worse than Gigi--and he was the country's leader. Amazing.
Football, right. Turkmenistan is ranked 146th in the world, which is "on our level" according to people like Razvan and "a suitable adversary" according to Sandu.
