The NT Coach, Razvan Lucescu

I created this thread for our very beloved Victor Piturca

here we can talk about his style, his approach, strengths and weaknesses and we can post up interviews and comments regarding him...

all I know is that he seems to be quite stubborn and he seems overly relaxed in friendly games

Well, frankly, I trust Piti now... He lost one match in his whole NT career in official games.

Somehow he makes it work, even if everyone says it won't... Which is why we'll reach the quarters With any good GK, including Stelea p

Romania Euro NT - The Coach

In 29 official games, Piturca just lost 3 (2 against Holland in WC 06 qualifiers, and 1 against Bulgaria when we were already qualified for Euro 2008).

His results in qualifier games:

1998 Romania - Liechtenstein 7-0
1998 Portugal - Romania 0-1
1998 Hungary - Romania 1-1
1999 Romania - Slovakia 0-0
1999 Azerbaidjan - Romania 0-1
1999 Romania - Hungary 2-0
1999 Romania - Azerbaidjan 4-0
1999 Slovakia - Romania 1-5
1999 Romania - Portugal 1-1
1999 Liechtenstein - Romania 0-3

He qualified Romania to Euro 2000 as 1st placed team above Portugal. But he left the NT before the final tournament.

2nd era:

2005 Romania - Holland 0-2
2005 Macedonia - Romania 1-2
2005 Holland - Romania 2-0
2005 Romania - Armenia 3-0
2005 Romania - Andorra 2-0
2005 Romania - Czech Rep. 2-0
2005 Finland - Romania 0-1

(He took the team in the middle of WC 06 qualifiers. He lost twice with Holland but managed to beat the Czechs)

2006 Romania - Bulgaria 2-2
2006 Albania - Romania 0-2
2006 Romania - Belarus 3-1
2007 Holland - Romania 0-0
2007 Romania - Luxembourg 3-0
2007 Slovenia - Romania 1-2
2007 Romania - Slovenia 2-0
2007 Belarus - Romania 1-3
2007 Romania - Holland 1-0
2007 Luxembourg - Romania 0-2
2007 Bulgaria - Romania 1-0
2007 Romania - Albania 6-1

Next games:

I don't hold that match against him. We were already qualified and let downs do happen. Thankfully they didn't happen until after we'd qualified.

When Piturca was hired I was one of the few people who actually believed in him. Not because of his tactical brilliance which he isn't anything special but because I knew we had good players with horrible attitudes. He brought discipline and efficiency to our NT which is the most important.

However he put a defensive team and took no good options to the bench, and we jeopardized our chances for the WC qualifying because of that game. It´s a mistake that we may regret in the future.

against France it was tactically almost a masterpiece... his only mistakes were starting D.Niculae but we don't know what's up with Marica so we can't judge that... I'd have even prefered Dica in Mutus position and Mutu as lone striker but its the past

It was very good but not a masterpiece. We are not so small to need to defend and forget about attacking. He put a team that could not counter. If you defend you need to prepare yourself to counterattack or else you are never gonna score.

It seems Piturca is dissapointed after being blamed of Romanian failure against Holland:

A change in the NT bench is not discarded.

Pitruca must stay, there is no Romanian coach even close to him except Lucescu, but he won't come back to the NT I don't think and Razvan is still developing his trade.

Unless it's a established foreign coach, I want Piti!

If we believe what the press is saying, there is a bad atmosphere for the future. The players complaining about getting almost no money for the Euro, Piturca in conflict with Sandu and the federation, Lupescu with Dragomir and some NT players with Mutu...

In addition the press has taken the "we don´t have the players to do better" attitude again. I hope this is all due to the typical reaction after a defeat, when everything that was ok now seems to be bad and the press is only trying to fill pages.
