Euro 2008 Draw

I think it's time to start talking about our qualifying campaign for the EURO 2008 finals. In about 6 weeks time we will have our first game.

Bad news is that Tibi Balan will be absent for 6 months do to his injury against Rapid. Hopefully Piti will find a good replacement, because i think Munti has expired.

The good news is that Mitea is back in form and Liga I is starting early so our players have enough time to get match fit.

I don´t like the fact of playing the first game vs Bulgaria at home. That game is a final cause Bulgaria is our main rival to get a place in Euro 2008.

We have a friendly game in August before that game, right?

Group G (Top 2 teams qualify to Euro 2008)

Netherlands
Romania
Bulgaria
Slovenia
Albania
Belarus
Luxembourg

Romanian Games this fall:

Saturday 2 September 2006
Romania vs. Bulgaria

Wednesday 6 September 2006
Albania vs. Romania

Saturday 7 October 2006
Romania vs. Belarus

Netherlands should be the favorite to win the group, but Romania better not lose their home game against them. The one theme that has re-occured in our failed attempts (WC2002, Euro2004, WC2006) is losing home games to big teams. In the last 3 qualifying we have lost at home to: Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Italy. We HAVE to start winning these home games.

The game in Albania is not easy at all.

I agree that Romania must be stronger at home. It´s funny that after losing with Norway and Denmark in Bucharest, it was the ref and the bad luck who avoided our victory vs those teams away.

I hope that in 8 October we have 9 points in our bag.

It is not important to have 9 points in 8 October, its a must have if we dont have 9 points then, we can say goodbye to Euro 2008 allready, even if at the end of the qualifications we wont be far from 2nd place, and give us the impression we didnt actually lose it at the start.

Me neither, i haven´t heard anything

It´s true that against Bulgaria it´ll be a final. it´s strange cause both teams will only be warming up, and usually Romania forms a solid first 11 by the second round of the qualies. We need to win that game by any means, in order to depend on us and not on other teams like we´ve done lately

yeah... a loss could be dramatic for our chances but a draw wouldn't be that bad... we can beat them away too in the latter stages but we shouldn't slip against the "worse" teams such as albania and belarussia... also against the neths we have to prove that we are ready for the EC and later on the WC of course

No, but if they don't...UEFA will go after them so they pretty much have no choice.

Belarus is a sporadic team that we will need to watch out for. They played some amazing games (4-3 loss in Italy, 1-0 win in Scotland, 1-1 draw at Norway) during WCQing but they also played some embarassing ones. (2-0 loss to MOLDOVA!!!)

Our group is not so easy as some people think. Bulgaria is our main rival, but we must be careful with Slovenia, Belarus and Albania too. Those teams are dangerous.

honestly, I don't think Albania will lose at home to anyone, (except maybe the netherlands) but a win in Romania for you guys is practically guaranteed.

We will probably have a load of really young players from abroad join the national team during this campaign. We were never good away before, but with a bunch of young guys in front of a large hostile crowd with no backing, doesn't look too good.

Granted, at Qemal Stafa, they'll have all the support they'll need. I'm looking forward to these games, some amazing Balkan Brawls will take place

Don´t say that, we don{t know how our team will look. If we form a good team and the individuals do well at their clubs we can beat everyone including the neths. But if we are full of injured and benched players like we sometimes were in the last qualifiers we can loose to most of the teams in the group too.

The Rumaniac is absolutely right... we sadly are the perfect injury victims which is a really bad deal... I mean we have an incredible pool of NT material... I think for the most spots we have 3 players who can do the job...

just tha team play has to improve drastically... i mean we sometimes play as we lack common sense ya know?

Romania vs. Bulgaria will be played in Constanta, almost one year after Romania vs. Czech Republic (2-0).

Don't worry about out guests here. They're merely hyping themselves, just like we subconsciously do with our team.
