A repeat of Paris will do for Belarus

Belarus pulled off one of the shocks of the qualifying campaign when they won in Paris in September, and would love a repeat performance when France come calling on 3 June.
Sergei Kislyak's goal in Paris gave Belarus a sensational 1-0 win when they first met France in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying, and they will look to regain momentum as the Group D scene shifts to Minsk.

• The FC Dinamo Minsk midfielder had been on for 11 minutes when he collected Vyacheslav Hleb's cross and side-footed coolly into the top corner. The hosts had been foiled on numerous occasions by Belarus's inspired goalkeeper Yuri Zhevnov.

• Prior to that game on 3 September 2010, with the only official meetings between French and Belarusian sides had come in the UEFA Intertoto Cup.

• In the group stage of the 1995 edition, FC Dnepr Mogilev held AS Cannes to a 2-2 draw at home, while in 2004 LOSC Lille Métropole battled their way past FC Dinamo Minsk in the third round, winning 2-1 at home and drawing 2-2 away.

• Belarus are second behind France in Group D, but have scored only two Group D goals in four games since their success in Paris, both of them in a 2-0 home win against Albania last October. They were also beaten 1-0 in Tirana last time out to slip four points behind Les Bleus.

• France are unbeaten in seven games since their last meeting with Belarus, six wins and a draw, including victories in all four of their subsequent qualifiers.

Hey everybody,

I need your opinios: Who are the three best central defenders in the Belarus league ? I'm searching for young (28 years maximum) defenders from Belarus and wondered if you could tell me maybe three or four players who are fast, skillful and reliable.

Thanks in advance,

Belorussian central defenders are usually rather tall and physical than quick type of footballers, but most interesting is surely Igor Shitov from BATE. Verkhovtsov is also decent, but he's not that fast.

Belarus are actually in a decent position to get out of their group stage in the Olympics. They won their first match 1:0 against New Zealand but pretty much dominated possession and should have scored more. Against Brazil they actually took the lead but then conceded three goals, loss was expected

They play Egypt tomorrow and only need a draw to advance to the quarterfinals.

Belarus ended up finishing third in their group. They had thee points, while Brazil had all nine and Egypt had four.

BATE

3-1 winners over Bayern.

This team is ignored too much probably due to the fact that there isn't any exposure to their national league.

All but one of the players in the team was Belarusian. Unheard of in todays global cosmopolitan football at top level.

Two victories now in the group after beating Lille away 3-1 in the first matchday.

they have pretty much guaranteed themselves Europe past Christmas, and 3-4 points may be enough to make the knockouts of the CL

Solid organized team (similar to APOEL in many ways, only without the foreigners) and their coach has been there for like 4-5 years now, rare in EE football

Great performance by BATE, the Greece of clubfootball!

Amazing that they only have one foreigner in Marko Simic, this makes the performance even more impressive. Got to love the directness in their game.

Awesome start to the Champions League! Will be interesting to see how many points will be taken from valencia during the next two matches!!

As an avid jersey collector, I would love to find a BATE Borisov jersey but I am finding it pretty hard to find anywhere on the computer.

Some months earlier we lost in Belarus 1:0. Btw our first GK now Sergei Pareiko made his debut then aged 19. He replaced Mart Poom who got injury. After that lose we got 4 wins in row: first of them that 96 match, then three friendlys in 2000 (2:0 home thanks to Andres Oper two goals), 2004 (in Malta. Goals by Meelis Rooba and Marek Lemsalu. For intresting fact, that in 2002 he also played for Valeranga in friendly against Manchester United

Tomorrow I have to be satisfied with draw. We missed a lot of main players (Pareiko, Ojamaa, Klavan, Piiroja, Rähn). predict line up: Londak, Jääger, Morozov, Bärengrub, Teniste, Puri, Vassiljev, Vunk, Kink, Zenjov, Viikmäe (first 30 minutes).
But as I know, then Belarus preparing for two qualification match against Finland. Maybe they keep some players

Two Belorussian clubs in European competition, impressive. BATE in the Champions League where they have a group with FC Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk and Athletic Bilbao. Many neutrals say this is the weakest group.

Dinamo Minsk surpass all expectations are qualify for the group stage of the Europa League. They impressively beat Nacional of Portugal in both legs

The same BATE that failed to beat Skenderbeu twice. Lucky basterds , they got an easy group too.

so BATE's last three CL wins are against Lille, Bayern and Athletic Bilbao (albeit on awful form) Add draws with Juve and Milan in previous years too

Will be an interesting head-to-head matchup with Shakhtar

Well, BATE have been exposed in their matches against Shakhtar. They have the three points from Bilbao but they will likely break the CL record for worst GD and most goals concededed
