A stunning free kick from Ecuador's Ivan Hurtado gave them a narrow 1-0 win over Guatemala in friendly in Guayaquil on Saturday.
The game was the final friendly for both teams ahead of their preparartion for the Gold Cup which begins next weekend.
Luis Capurro won his 98th cap for Ecuador and will go over 100 in next week's tournament.
Guatemala had two good chances early in the first half, but midfielder Fredy Garcia blasted two free kicks wide of Ecuadorian goalkeeper Jose Cevallos' net.
Ecuador were stymied twice late in the first half when Cristian Lara could not finish a header in the 33rd minute and Carlos Tenorio had his shot stopped with a fine right-hand save from Guatemala goalkeeper Edgar Estrada.
Both teams substituted freely in the second-half, but the 50,000 people had to wait until seven minutes before time for the only goal of the game.
Hurtado lined up 20 yards from the net and curled a searing shot that Estrada could not stop to his left side.
Ecuador will begin their Gold Cup schedule against Haiti on January 20 in Miami while Guatemala faces another World Cup team in Mexico on January 21 in Los Angeles.
