This is why is good that people from all countrits post here, first it brings you up to date on countries you may lack information on and second you get different opinions on the same subject...
Other than following Pezza and Machon I really havent had much info on Guatemalan soccer 'till now.

Hondura's Coach Primitivo Madariaga is history.
The Honduras Football Federation has not renewed his contract.

Turcios signs for Defensor

www.internetsoccer.com

Honduran international Elvis Turcios will play for Defensor Sporting during the upcoming Uruguayan season.
Turcios, who plays as a wing-back and a midfielder, will arrive in Montevideo today to join the Violetas training camp and work under the supervision of coach Ricardo Ortiz.

The Honduran icon has joined Defensor after a stint with humble side Deportivo Maldonado. Turcios, however, has been injured during the past season and has not played any official matches in the Uruguayan league.

The new Defensor player has played for his country for over five years and has also played for Motagua, one of the biggest clubs in Honduras, before coming to Uruguayan football.

Turcios, therefore, joins the Honduran delegation in Uruguayan football formed by strikers Milton Núńez and Saul Martinez, who played for Uruguayan champions Nacional last year.

Meanwhile, Chilean defender Victor Salazar has already joined the Violeta training camp in Montevideo.

Salazar played under Defensor manager Ricardo Ortiz during his stint with Santiago Wanderers in the Chilean First Division.

Defensor Sporting will begin a new era under coach Ortiz, whose primary goal is to fight for the national championship against Uruguayan giants Nacional and Peńarol.

Although Defensor Sporting are considered the third big club in the Uruguayan First Division, the Violetas did not qualify for the Copa Libertadores this year. Ortiz and his troops will, therefore, be able to dedicate their energies towards the Uruguayan championship.

Catrachos continue their treck South !!!!

Pineda Chacon recalled to Honduras

www.internetsoccer.comPineda Chacon recalled to Honduras

2001 MLS MVP Alex Pineda Chacon has been recalled to the Honduran national team for the first time in nearly two years for the Carlsberg Cup in February.

Chacon, who took MLS by storm in his first season last year with the now defunct Miami Fusion, has not played for the Catrachos since the first round of Central American Qualifying in a 1-0 loss to Panama on April 2 2000.

The 32-year old, who scored 19 goals in 25 games en route to his most valuable player award, will play for the national team in Hong Kong against the hosts, China, and Slovenia February 13-15.

This will be the first action for Honduras since their elimination from World Cup Qualifying in November.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Noel Valladares (Motagua/Hon), Henry Enamorado (Universidad/Hon)

Defenders: Limbert Perez, Giovanni Avila (both Olimpia/Hon), Ninrod Medina, Junior Izaguirre (Motagua/Hon), David Carcamo (Real Espana/Hon), Edgard Alvarez (Platense/Hon), Samuel Caballero (Udinese/Ita)

Midfielders: Luis Pineda (Olimpia/Hon), Robel Bernardez (Motagua/Hon), Rony Morales (Platense/Hon), Narciso Fernandez (Olimpia/Hon), Alex Pineda Chacon (MLS), Danilo Turcios (Defensor Sporting/Uru), Amado Guevara (Zacatepec/Mex)

Forwards: Pompilio Cacho (Marathon/Hon), Carlos Pavon (Udinese/Ita), Milton Nunez, Saul Martinez (both Nacional/Uru), David Suazo (Cagliari/Ita), Jairo Martinez (Coventry/Eng)

Honduras to face USA again

10 January 2002 (Teamtalk) --

The US will play Honduras in their first meeting since World Cup Qualifying in a friendly on March 2 at Seattle's Safeco Field.
These two teams last met on September 1 when Honduras almost de-railed the United States' World Cup hopes with an exhilarating 3-2 win in Washington D.C. as Bruce Arena's team had already beaten Honduras in March in San Pedro Sula 2-1.

The US managed to right its ship and secure qualification while Honduras self-destructed at home against Trinidad & Tobago and did not make it to the World Cup finals.

Neither team is expected to have all their first choice players for the match, as the European-based players for both teams, including Sunderland's Claudio Reyna and Udinese's Carlos Pavon, are not expected to make the trip.

Honduras also announced they will take part in the Carlsberg Cup in Hong Kong in mid-February against the hosts, China, and Slovenia. It will be the first international action for the Catrachos since failing to win qualification against Mexico on the final day of World Cup Qualifying in November.

Lets hope for another entertaining Match !!!

The Chapines are definitively improving but I still take theTicos and Catrachos in any game those teams play with their A team and take it seriously. Which pretty much means WCQ only. Sorry rojo that's the way it is.

Honduras taps Luzardo as new boss

23 January 2002 (www.TEAMtalk.com) -

The Honduran Football Federation has named Ernesto Luzardo as the new Honduras technical director on Tuesday.
The Uruguayan will take over the national team immediately and will be in charge of the team at the Carlsberg Cup in China in February. It will be the first time the Bicolor has been in action since failing to qualify for the World Cup in November.

Luzardo replaces Ramon Maradiaga who was sacked in December. Luzardo was not the first choice of the Honduran Federation as a number of coaches in the Honduran league turned down the chance to take over the national team.

Luzardo worked as the head of a soccer school and was a popular television commentator before being given the reins of the national team.

He was also an assistant with the Honduran team that failed to reach the 1994 World Cup.
