Colombian striker Faustino Asprilla has indicated that he will file a lawsuit against his Mexican club Atlante for terminating his contract.
The controversial Colombian international, once a standout in prominent clubs like English side Newcastle United and Italian side Parma, reportedly said that he expects to receive US$ 1 million that would cover salary and prizes.
According to Asprilla, Atlante have not paid his salary for the past two months. Furthermore, Asprilla did not receive his bonus for advancing to the Mexican league quarter-finals.
Last week, Atlante President Jose Antonio Garcia dismissed Asprilla for failing to report to practice.
Asprilla had travelled to his native Colombia last week to see his personal doctor. Although Asprilla had told local reporters that he had received permission from his club, Garcia confirmed that he had not given permission for the Colombian gunner to travel outside of Mexico.
Asprilla also said that the club never allocated a car that he was supposed to receive or paid out his percentage of his transfer rights purchased from Parma.
In twelve Mexican league matches, Asprilla netted three goals. During the tournament quarter-finals, the maverick gunner did not play due to an injury.
Garcia, though, said that Asprilla faked the injury.
Asprilla, for his part, said he had medical tests to prove his injury that prevented him from playing during the last part of the season.
I dont know about contract terms and or not paid salary, but what I saw of Asprilla in the Invierno was not even a shadow of the player 2 or 3 yrs before.....
