GUATEMALA CITY - First-half goals by Bobby Wood, Joe Gyau and Conor Doyle sparked the United States to a 4-0 victory over Suriname on Tuesday in the opening game for both at the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship. The Americans, trying for an eighth consecutive trip to the U-20 World Cup, controlled the match from the start, hitting the post twice in the opening 45 minutes in addition to jumping ahead 3-0. Ticos wear down Guadeloupe, head to U20 QFs

GUATEMALA CITY - Joel Campbell scored twice in six minutes early in the second half to give defending champion Costa Rica a 3-0 victory over Guadeloupe on Wednesday, sending the Ticos and Canada into the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship.

The loss eliminated the French Caribbean island, playing in the CONCACAF finals for only the second time and first since 1992

Cuba-Trinidad draw sends Mexico to U-20 QFs

GUATEMALA CITY - Caribbean rivals Cuba and Trinidad & Tobago played to a 0-0 draw Wednesday at the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship, assuring Mexico of a quarterfinal berth.

It was the second time in three days that Cuba was held without a goal, leaving its knockout-round fate depending on the result of the Group D finale between Trinidad and Mexico. Mexico beat Cuba 3-0 on Monday, meaning Trinidad needs a win, draw or a loss by two goals or less to advance.

Cuba will need Mexico to win by four goals to be assured of advancing.

Waterman’s three leads Panama past Suriname

GUATEMALA CITY - Cecilio Waterman's three goals gave Panama a 3-0 victory over Suriname on Thursday, sending "Los Canaleros" into the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship along with the United States.
It was the second loss in as many games without scoring a goal for Suriname, the last team to qualify for the 12-team field and which has failed to get past the first round in five trips to the CONCACAF finals.

The United States, which beat Suriname 4-0 on Tuesday, will face Panama on Saturday to decide the Group B title and seeding for the knockout round.

Honduras reaches U-20 quarters with 2-1 victory

GUATEMALA CITY - Alexander Lopez converted a dramatic 30-meter free kick in the 77th minute to complete Honduras' rally for a 2-1 victory over Jamaica on Thursday, sending it to the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship.

Ever Alvarado also scored for "Los Catrachos", whose victory also assured host Guatemala of a place in the knockout round. Jamaica, which lost to Guatemala 2-0 on Tuesday, was eliminated, the third of five Caribbean teams to be sent home.

Honduras will face "Los Chapines" on Saturday to determine the Group A winner and seeding for the quarterfinals. The United States, Panama, Costa Rica, Canada and Mexico already had qualified for the quarterfinals, the winners of which will advance to the U-20 World Cup.

Mexico routs Trinidad, Cuba qualifies for U-20 QFs

GUATEMALA CITY - Taufic Guarch scored three goals and hit the post another time to lead Mexico a 5-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago on Friday, eliminating the "Young Warriors" and earning Cuba a place in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship.

Mexico already had clinched a berth in the knockout round and Friday's rout clinched the Group D title, pitting it against Canada in Tuesday's quarterfinals.

Group D's other berth went to Cuba, which -- by virtue of losing only 3-0 to Mexico - advanced on goal difference over Trinidad. It will play Costa Rica in Tuesday's other quarterfinal.

Campbell scores again, Costa Rica tops Canada

GUATEMALA CITY - Joel Campbell scored his third goal in two games and set up another to lead Costa Rica to a 3-0 victory over Canada on Friday, finishing it atop Group C at the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship and avoiding Mexico in the quarterfinals.

Mynor Escoe Miller converted a cross by Campbell in second-half injury time and Juan Golobio also scored on a mistake by Canadian keeper Julien Latendresse-Levesque. Costa Rica concluded the first round with six points atop Group C, three better than Canada, sending it to Tuesday's quarterfinals against Group D runner-up Cuba.

Both sides already had clinched berths in the quarterfinals, the winners of which will qualify for the U-20 World Cup in Colombia July 29-August 20.

Ten-man Honduras tops Guatemala 3-1 in U-20s

GUATEMALA CITY - Nestor Martinez scored one goal and helped out on two more, leading a 10-man Honduras past host Guatemala 3-1 on Saturday and to a quarterfinal meeting against Panama in the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship.

Antony Lozano converted a Martinez corner kick in the third minute, Martinez doubled the lead in the 25th and then had a hand in Alexander Lopez's insurance tally in the 54th to send "Los Catrachos" to Wednesday's knockout round with a second win in as many games.

Rowe paces United States U-20s past Panama

GUATEMALA CITY - Kelyn Rowe scored twice in the first 18 minutes and the United States cruised into the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship with a 2-0 victory over Panama on Saturday.

Both teams already were assured of places in the knockout round. The American victory finished it atop Group B with six points from two games, earning it a meeting on Wednesday with the runner-up from Group A - either host Guatemala or Honduras.

Panama, which split its two opening matches, will face the Group A winner. The quarterfinal winners will qualify for the U-20 World Cup in Colombia July 29-August 20.
