Suazo wins foreigner award

Suazo wins foreigner award Thursday 4 January, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cagliari ace David Suazo has been named as the best foreign player of the 2005-06 Serie A season by his fellow professionals.

The Sardinian outfit broke the news this evening after the Honduran rippled the net on 22 occasions in the League last term.

Suazo will receive his award, organised by the AIA – the Italian Players’ Association, at the ‘Oscar del Calcio’ ceremony on January 29.

Season over for Esposito Friday 5 January, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cagliari striker Mauro Esposito will be sidelined for the rest of the season after injuring his knee during training.

The 27-year-old hurt himself at the end of Thursday’s session and medical tests illustrated ligament damage as well as a lesion of the meniscus in his right knee.

Esposito was visited by Professor Salvi in Cagliari, who confirmed that the forward will need six months to make a full recovery.

He will now travel to Rome for an examination by orthopaedic specialist Pierpaolo Mariani, the doctor who contributed to Francesco Totti’s amazing recovery after he fractured his ankle last February.

The latest rumours had paired the Rossoblu starlet with Roma, who were ready to offer youngsters Aleandro Rosi, Stefano Okaka and Daniele Galloppa to the Sant’Elia outfit in exchange.

Esposito had already been courted by Roma last summer, but the transfer was never finalised despite President Massimo Cellino’s availability to let the player leave.

“I am very disappointed as I felt that he was improving after a difficult moment,” said Cagliari Coach Franco Colomba.

“When one of my lads has a problem I feel sorry for him, in these cases you enter a tunnel. However, I am sure that Mauro will find the strength to recover.”

Esposito’s injury may now influence the islanders’ moves on the market, as they could block the departure of Antonio Langella, as well as captain David Suazo, who is a target for several clubs including Inter and Milan.
