The LD Alajuelense Thread

Liga Deportiva Alajuelense

So, this is the thread for pretty much the best club in the Western Hemisphere. Current champions of Central America, two time North American champions and the most successful team in Costa Rica. I fell in love with them in my first of two trips to Costa Rica back in 2002 and have been following them ever since.

Palmares
24x Costa Rica league titles
2x CONCACAF Champions Cup
3x UNCAF Cup

Official Website

Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto

The new season just started with a 6-3 win over Liberia and a debut hat-trick from Erick Scott, so I am fairly optimistic for this season. We will also be competing in the Copa Sudamericana. Our possible opponents are Colo Colo or Huachipato from Chile or Coronel Bolognesi or Universidad Deportivo San Martín from Peru, so we might have a chance of advancing, but Colo Colo will probably be the toughest out of those.

Despite our fairly poor domestic season last season we are still in the UNCAF Cup (Central American club championship) as defending champions with a chance to enter the CONCACAF Champions Cup if we get first, second, or third place.

We are in Group A for the Apertura campaign with San Carlos, Herediano, Puntarenas, Santacruceña, and Liberia, though we play teams in Group B at least once. The derby with Saprissa is on October 10.

Anyways, hopefully this will foster some discussion...this campaign should be interesting, I believe it is the first time we have competed in the Copa Sudamericana.

1-1 home draw with San Carlos today. Not the best result, but with other results we are still on top of Group A (and the combined table) with 4 points. Will post more pictures when I can find some.

Also it looks like Luis Marín is on his way to Maccabi Netanya in Israel. Luckily we have already found a replacement Colombian defender Julio Romaña Mena from Deportivo Cúcuta. I am disappointed Marín left, he was a great defender (and captain of Costa Rica), though I suppose these things happen.

I've been to Costa Rica a few times and saw Alajuelense a couple times while down there, so I kind of just picked up on them (and the national team, who are my second favorite after the USA). Now they are my favorite club in the Western Hemisphere. Very cool team, nice colors, great fans, nice stadium for that area of the world too, and lots of history.

Just a little update. Things have been going OK. We got the toughest possible opponent in the Copa Sudamericana, Colo, but we'll have to make do. We are rebounding from some losses in the league and are two points off the pace in Group B, in second place behind Puntarenas. Speaking of them, quite a disappointing UNCAF Cup defeat last week, but hopefully we can overturn the 3-0 deficit tonight at thier place (not likely though).

Why dont you root for MLS? I see you dont even have confidense in your own clubs that you have to "dickride" other international clubs. My two favorite clubs are both from the Mexican League and are both sister teams, America and San Luis. If I'd had to pick a favorite team that is not from Mexico I would pick Juventus.

Wow, learn something, please. First of all, I do follow the MLS, I don't follow a specific team though since there's not really any team I feel that attached to. I "dickride" other international clubs? What the hell does that even mean? The two international teams I support most (Torino and LDA, and this is support, not just 'liking' them), I support for reasons that don't even have to do with the MLS. Hell, I barely even consider Toro to be an international club since I'm Italian-American! If I wanted to "dickride" foreign teams I'd have Barça, Chelsea, and América as my favorite teams. Figures you're a gobbi without a clue.

And that's the last I will say on the subject seeing as there is nothing in your post indicating that you actually want to talk about Alajuelense.

Explain how is "rooting" for 2 teams from the same league not "dickriding"..?

If you're referring to Watford and Fulham (and WBA in a loose sense...considering they are in the Championship this year), I simply like to see them do well for one reason or another. It's not like I support them like I support Torino or even LDA or they are my teams. I just like to see them do well. And I still don't get what you mean by "dickriding", it doesn't make any sense at all.

no no, I'm talking abour android. In real soccer countries supporting two teams is really "dickriding"..I consider it even worst than supporting other countries clubs. If someone supports different division teams I can understand but america and San Luis and both in the same division and to support both is to cherry ppick which one is doing better so they could go with that one. Let me ask you a questio droid..

mmm what do you do when both of them play against each other?

I have always supported America in first division, and San Luis in second division. Now San Luis is in first division and I continue to support them as well as America. BTW, San Luis and America are sisiter teams so they have more in common. If San Luis plays America I would root for America. I personally want San Luis to win the Copa Sudamericana, and America to win the Copa Libertadores and clasify to World CUp of Clubs and win that too.

No, definitely not. We have been underperforming in the league, but in the UNCAF Cup and now this we have been even more dreadful. I think a change is necessary...

I thought ColoColo in Santiago would take it easy on LDA, instead they pounded the Ticos 7x2
