Mexican Duo May Face Lengthy Bans

Mexican duo Salvador Carmona and Aaron Galindo face bans of between six months and two years if they are found guilty of taking the steroid nandrolone.
The pair have been sent home from the Confederations Cup but Fifa confirmed Mexico's results will stand and they can take on Argentina in the last four.

"They'll be handed punishments if they warrant it but we must not speculate.

"The most important thing is that the results were upheld," said Mexico football chief Alberto de la Torre.

The players were initially thought to have been expelled from the squad for indiscipline rather than a drug test failure but it was later revealed that they had tested positive for nandrolone before the competition started.

However, Fifa insists that the Mexican Football Federation must provide them with answers to the scandal.

"Fifa firmly demanded the Mexican Federation to provide a detailed explanation," said spokesman Markus Siegler.

"We want to know when the Mexican Football Federation knew the anti-doping controls had come back with positive results and why they didn't inform us immediately."

Yup, a year from any competition. I hope they protest against this. It's actually rather sad to see a great player such as Salvador Carmona in this mess.

Well, it's his fault, really. I think the ban is appropriate, they were on steroids...
