You know, I ought to be rooting for Mexico, since they appearently are my "local team." Back in 2002, when Mexico and the US met in the World Cup, the local newspaper went around asking people who they would like to see win. Mexican supporters outnumbered the US supporters by at least 10 to 1.

Just about everywhere in the Southwest:California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. I live in a small town in Southern California where I can honestly say that the Mexican population is about 65% or higher.

I have to say this iritates me. The hispanic population around here is the same. I have no problem with people in Mexico supporting there team.

EDIT:EDIT: Glenn, let's not have any of that...

Here, the local Hispanic population consists mostly of people that were born and raised in America, but the whole area still has strong cultural ties with Mexico, and I suppose those ties extend to their preference in national teams. I would not go so far as to say that the people consider themselves to be more Mexican than American, but Mexico certainly plays an important role and is a strong influence.

Very well said. At the same time however, I have some friends who like the idea of Chivas USA. It will be very interesting to see how this team will affect the hispanic comunity in Southern California as well as in other places with a high hispanic population.

Nice topics. I dissagre with Glenn, it's a biased post. It's an ignorant thing to say that if they like Mexico so much, THEY SHOULD HAVE STAYED IN MEXICO?!

What the hell is that supposed to mean? It makes you sound racist, and dumb.

I live in San Diego, large Hispanic population and damn PROUD OF IT. I'm really getting upset, so I'll just stop writting........

Mexico news.

I saw this thread open, so I decided to put the Mex-US stuff for this upcoming game.

Duilio Davino will take Defender Ricardo Osorio's place due to injury.

And Marquez is a doubt also!

Quote:
The work begins for El Tri

The Mexican national team returned to work with some injured players and without coach Ricardo Volpe in preparation for Saturday's game against their U.S. counterpart in qualification for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

The national team conducted the practice under the orders of La Volpe's aid, ex goalkeeper Jorge Campos, who learned the news that some players had arrived injured.

In accordance with the report of Dr. José Luis Serrano, the players who displayed physical problems as a result of the games played on the eve of the 6th round of the 2005 Torneo Apertura are:

Cruz Azul defender, Ricardo Osorio, who is the only one of the injured players in doubt to face the Americans this Saturday, Gerardo Galindo and Rafael Márquez. Furthermore, Jared Borgetti has yet to be evaluated.

Serrano explained that the Cruz Azul central defender suffered a contusion to the internal part of the right knee and has an inflamed medial collateral ligament. He will be in observation to monitor his progress and to see if he will be ready for Saturday or held until the Panama game.

Regarding the UNAM Pumas player, "Jerry" Galindo, he indicated that he is carrying an inflammation of the plantar base, an injury he had already been carrying for quite some time, but with good treatment he hopes to be able to train this Tuesday with the rest of the squad.

Márquez, on the other hand, has a first degree ligament sprain to his right ankle, the reason for which he did not train this Monday and will be in treatment begining tomorrow (Tuesday) in order to be fit to play.

The rest of the squad is in good condition for the work and the game against the Americans, although they lack only the incorporation of Bolton forward Jared Borgetti, who will report to El Tri tonight, and La Volpe, who arrives on Tuesday.

Since its played in the US i will say the US should win and playing the game in Columbus is also an advantage if it was played in CA or FL the corwd might have been 60-40 in Mexico's favor.

Yes!!!

Rafa Marquez meet Mr. Gooch's elbow! Courtesy of the red, white, and blue. On a day that this country needs more solidarity and unity than anything else!

A moment of silence will be made before the game for those affected and victimized by the tragic Hurricane Katrina.

Come on Eagles, time to spread your wings and tell the world it's time to go on!!! :fero:

Pavel Pardo is not playing against the USA due to an accumulation of yellow cards. Blanco was not called up by Lavolpe.
