who is the power in the CONCACAF

Which nation do you think is the powerful squad?

I would say it's the United States.

In the late 80's Mexico ruled this region, but with the scandal leading to their ban from the 1990 World Cup, the Americans were able to gain entrance to the World Cup.

This, in part, led to our confidence in 1994, when we advanced to the second round and really should have done so much more.

In 1998, we were terrible, and were much weaker than Mexico.

However, with our amazing triumph in 2002 over Mexico, our biggest rivals, we've re-claimed the top spot as the best nation in this region.

I am sure the Mexicans will make another run at the top, but it's becoming more and more isolated between ourselves and Mexico and the rest of the region. Not Rangers and Celtic-esque, but there's still a distinct lack of class.

Before it was no contest, Mexico for sure, but nowadays it's a tight two-horse race and I'd say at the moment the US have the edge.

Right now, it has to be the United States, we haven't lost to Mexico in like the last 8 matches I think.

However, Mexico did dominate this region up until we beat them in the 2002 World Cup. There was no contest, Mexico was much better.

Currently, the pecking order in my opinion, is USA, Mexico, Costa Rica

Wasn't Canada a power for a time? I believe they were quiet good for a while, good enough to advance to the World Cup finals a time or two, right?

Of late they've gone through a depressing downturn, but I think they'll enjoy a resurgence in time.

Costa Rica looked very good at the World Cup, and Mexico was brilliant before the game against America, so we've really strengthened ourselves.

However, I think it's a bit silly that in the final round of Qualifying 50% of the teams advance automatically and one more team will have a play-off to try to advance as well.

The format needs to be revised.

Canada qualified for the 1986 World Cup. It might have been helped out by the fact Mexico hosted that WC. However, I think that other than that, they have basically sucked (apart from that fluke Gold Cup win a few years ago).

I'm just wondering who said Panama, considering the USA thrashed them 6-1...

Alter Ego, if you didn't notice by the silly smile and it is, after all, a public poll.

Panama actually outplayed the USA for huge spells in Panama, and we were only able to snatch an equaliser with a late, controversial goal.

Here we ripped them apart, but they aren't that bad of a unit. I think it's a two way fight between the USA and Mexico. Our power goes beyond just matches between the two - we send far more players overseas than Mexico and Costa Rica do, showing the real class of our players.

I put Panama in the poll for my dear friend A.E.

I knew he'd show up

United States by a landslide.

It's simply amazing how much more talent they have been able to produce, at this rate they can really become a serious threat in the future World Cups. Just the way they have been able to de-throne Mexico the title of being the best team from North America so quickly is an incredible feat itself.

Nulla č impossibile per questa Inter

USA by far.

Mexico is certainly the only real competitor for the US right now, and as of late we've been beating them fairly convincingly.

No votes for Mexico. I don't think this is a very scientific survey. Somebody out there must think they have a chance.

I think were seeing the growth of American soccer due in large to the MLS and the numerous youth leagues. More kids today play soccer the baseball

I wouldn't vote for Mexico if they won three straight WCs. Now Panama is another story a sentimental farovite for sure.

Us a power? :depress: Yes we went to the 1986 World Cup in Mexico,
but didn't score a goal( France,Soviet Union,Hungary). But since then we have fallen off the football map (except the Gold Cup Championship in 2000). We are no threat to go to the world Cup any time soon except
as spectators. Are current national side is being missed handles by the manager(Frank Yallop and the CSA). I predict that 2018 will be about the time we will have our best chance to qualify, that will give the young players coming out of our youth system a chance to learn their
trade, if the current manager allows it? :depress: But to get back to the question, Mexico is still the major power in Concacaf, followed by
Costa Rica, then just add a team the rest are mediocre.

Since we're talking about just the CONCACAF, the U.S.

Mexico!!! They've always been the power house and always will. Just one significant loss, the WC 2002. It's funny to see you guys actually think the U.S. is a power house, no doubt they've improved but they got a long way to go. So yeah, it's obvious that I'm Mexican voted for Mexico, but c'on what am I supposed to do?

It's no used with you guys.

Don't worry man. I pulled for you guys in the World Cup as a CONCACAF partner, but I didn't want to play you....

All three CONCACAF teams advanced out of the group stage at the last World Cup.
