Necaxa pile on misery for America in Mexico

MEXICO CITY, Sept 26 (Reuters) -

Necaxa gave America's new coach Mario Carillo a hot reception at the weekend, winning 4-1 to pile on the championship misery for Mexico's richest club.

Carillo took over when former Argentina captain Oscar Ruggeri resigned after six games in charge of America, who have spent heavily on reinforcements in an attempt to improve on last season's dismal showing.

Brazilian Alexandre scored twice in three minutes in the first half for Necaxa. Peruvian Juan Reynoso added a third and Mario Capetillo completed the rout with a last-minute goal.

Former Valencia and Lazio striker Claudio Lopez grabbed a consolation for America, who are third in Group One with seven points from seven games.

Cruz Azul, another underachieving outfit, won for the first time this season when they beat defending champions UNAM 3-1 with goals from Argentina internationals Luciano Figueiroa and Cesar Delgado. Cesareo Victorino was also on target.

Bolivia striker Joaquin Botero replied for the Pumas, who had coach Hugo Sanchez ordered from the touchline in the 85th minute for persistant dissent.

Cruz Azul remain bottom of Group Two with four points while the Pumas are fifth in Group One.

Brazilian Robert de Pinho netted twice as Atlas beat their bigger neighbours Guadalajara 3-1 while Mexico striker Cuauhtemoc Blanco notched an 88th-minute winner as Veracruz triumphed 2-1 at Pachuca.

The win kept the Red Sharks top of Group Three with 18 points from seven games.
