Caribbean Zone qualifying fixtures set for 2005 CONCACAF Champions Cup

30.8.04 - The fixtures are set for the qualifying rounds in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) as eight teams compete for a berth in the 2005 CONCACAF Champions’ Cup.
The CFU clubs will compete in the opening round home-and-away series on 22 and 29 September 2004. Intermeongotapoe (SUR) will meet Juventus de Saint-Martin (SXM) in the Series A match-up, while Antigua & Barbuda’s Bassa Sports Club and Tivoli Gardens of Jamaica clash in Series B.

Completing the opening round of CFU fixtures are Harbour View (JAM) taking on Ideal Football Club (MSR) in Series C and in Series D, Walking Boys Company of Surinam faces the defending CFU Club Champions, CL Financial Jabloteh of Trinidad & Tobago.

The four opening round winners will advance to the two-game CFU semifinal series set for 13 and 20 October 2004.

The semifinal victors will battle for the CFU’s berth to the 2005 Champions Cup in a home-and-away series final scheduled for the 3 and 10 November 2004.

The 2005 breakdown of teams for the Champions Cup will feature two clubs each from Mexico and USA along with three clubs qualifying from Union Centroamericana de Fútbol (UNCAF) Championship later this year.

Dates announced for 2005 CONCACAF Champions Cup

16.9.04 - CONCACAF announced the dates for the 2005 Champions’ Cup, which will continue to be a straight knockout event, with teams playing over a home-and-away system beginning on 9 March until 11 May.
The 2005 breakdown will feature two clubs each from Mexico and the USA, one team qualifying from the Caribbean Football Union and three clubs advancing from the Union Centroamericana de Fútbol’s Torneo Interclubes later this year.

The eight-team Champions’ Cup pairing will be determined by a draw to be held at the offices of CONCACAF General Secretariat in New York City in early 2005.

The winner of the 2005 CONCACAF Champions’ Cup will qualify to the next FIFA Club World Championship to be held in Japan in December of next year.

The CONCACAF Champions’ Cup is the longest running international club competition in the region and has crowned the champion club of the Confederation since its inception in 1962.

CD F.A.S. defeats Diriangén FC in Central Zone Qualifying; Kulture Yabra ties Alianza FC

22.9.04 - The Central Zone Qualification to the 2005 CONCACAF Champions’ Cup began on Tuesday with the first-legs of the opening round Torneo Interclubes de UNCAF (Union Centroamericana de Fútbol).
El Salvador’s Alianza FC could only manage a scoreless draw against the host Kulture Yabra of Belize in their first-leg encounter held at the MCC Grounds in Belize City on Tuesday.

In another encounter on Tuesday, goals from Alejandro De La Cruz and Víctor Mafla led visiting CD F.A.S. (SLV) to a 2:0 victory over Diriangén FC (NCA) at the Estadio Cacique Diriangén in Ciudad de Diriamba, Nicaragua.

The first-legs of the Torneo Interclubes de UNCAF opening round continue this week with Plaza Amador (PAN) hosting Club Cobán Imperial (GUA) in Ciudad de Panamá, Panama on Wednesday, while CD Olímpia (HON) visits Boca FC (BLZ) in Belize City. On Thursday, Tauro FC (PAN) greets CS Herediano (CRC) in Ciudad de Panamá, while Real Estelí (NCA) host Real CD España (HON) in Estelí, Nicaragua.

Twelve Central American clubs are competing at the first round of the UNCAF tournament (home-and-away series) that concludes its second-leg matches on 30 September 2004.

The first round winners will join CSD Municipal (GUA) and Deportivo Saprissa (CRC) in the second round scheduled for October 2004.

The remaining four teams from the second round will compete in the Torneo Interclubes de UNCAF Final Round from 1-5 December 2004 and the top three teams will qualify to the 2005 CONCACAF Champions’ Cup.

Herediano tops Tauro FC in Central Zone Qualifying; CD España & Estelí play to a draw

24.9.04 - The Central Zone Qualification to the 2005 CONCACAF Champions’ Cup continued with the final first-leg matches of the opening round Torneo Interclubes de UNCAF (Union Centroamericana de Fútbol) on Thursday.
CS Herediano (CRC) topped the host Tauro FC (PAN) 3:0 at the Estadio Rommel Fernández in Ciudad de Panamá, Panama, while Real Estelí (NCA) had to settle for a 1:1 draw against visiting Real CD España (HON) at Estadio Independencia in Ciudad de Estelí, Nicaragua.

After Kurt Bernard got CS Herediano on the board just before halftime, Minor Díaz made it 2:0 with a goal in the 53rd minute of the second half. Jafet Soto closed out the scoring with a penalty kick goal in the 83rd minute for the 3:0 final.

In the other encounter on Thursday, Elmer Mejío’s goal in the 38th minute of the first half gave Real Estelí the lead, but with 20 seconds remaining in the third minute of injury time, Clifford Altamirano scored the equalizer for Real CD España.

The second-legs of the Torneo Interclubes de UNCAF opening round begin on Tuesday (28 September) with Club Cobán Imperial (GUA) hosting Plaza Amador (PAN) in Guatemala, while CD Olímpia (HON) greets Boca FC (BLZ) in Honduras.
