Greece in Euro 2008

After just looking at greece's group and schedule what would you say is a possible points amount and possible final standings.

Realistically i think greece could finish top as long as they improve their away record and points amount as in the world cup qualifiers the home record was fine but the away record let greece down although i think the world cup qualifiers were a far tougher propersition than the European qualifiers,

I think the Turks provide the toughest test but always seem to snuff it up at vital times and Norway aswell seem to be very handy at home.

In my eyes over 26 points should qualify greece for their chance to retain their title.

Anything short of second place in this groups is a MAJOR disappointment

We are better than any team in this group short of Turkey and they have been given major sanctions.

We are better than Turkey too, in my opinion.

It basically depends on Rehhagel. If he carries on the behaviour of the WC Qualifiers we'll have problems even beating Armenia and Azerbaijan. If he plays our best players and trains them well, we'll qualify.

With Samaras, Salpiggidis and Amanatidis being on such good form we have a potent stike force instead of... Vryzas.

yes, turkey have their sanctions all though they always take good followings in the champions league when theyre clubs are sanctioned. If rehhagel introdues discpline into the team like in Euro 2004 especially in away matches, greece will be fine and i think will finish top.
I do believe norway could be the ukraine of the qualifiers aswell but with player like samaras i think greece will be well up there in points total, and with some ussually weak sides in the group failure to win these will be a very very big dissapointemnt like armenia.

I think the whole Turkey sanctions thing is overrated. Despite all the "terror" hype behind their home matches, they are not particularly good at home. In last qualifiers they failed to beat either Denmark, Greece or Ukraine. And the sanctions is only going to motivate them more because they will probably feel they were hard done.

Yes thats a very good point, I can remember the greece turkey game, turkey huffed and puffed all game with the fans getting behind them and the best chance fell to stelios if i remember properly.
do the best second placed teams apply to teams with 7 teams in ?......was there any away travel restrictions also last time to the turkey game like the england game ?

Yes Stelios had the great opportunity which turned the field off the post.
Turkey had the ball posession and several chances especially with Fatih Tekke but all wasted.

I am expecting same style matches in this group matches. Emre Belezoglu is the biggest loss for the Turkish team as he had a key role in the team formation, not the fan ban. Because playing without fans will fire up the team as all the players think this ban is an unfair situation and desirely want to give the answers on the field to FIFA.

By the way, top 2 will directly qualify from the groups in Euro 2008.

Definitely... perhaps the greatest benefit to come out of winning the Euro is the fact that we now actually have EXPECTATIONS from the national team to qualify for these tournaments.

Consistency is the key to this one... in the World Cup qualifiers we didn't play that bad against the bigger teams in the group, but did slip points (again) to Albania, and had tough times with Georgia and Kazakhstan. Bosnia could prove a tough opponent, they have an experienced and fast squad, that could prove tough to match.

Turkey, Greece, Norway and Denmark are the biggies in the group, but it is the easiest group for us, it can't get any easier!! If we can't qualify from this, when we are put in Group 1 for seeding, then it would be truly ridiculous.

turkey and greece are probably going to advance together, but norway is the possible surprise group... i say the battle is between who takes first place, turkey or greece, and i say turkey... its just too bad we lost some of our biggest stars due to the last campaign..

Don't count out Bosnia.

IMO I see us qualifying over Greece or Turkey. You guys might have the reputation, but we have the will and the ability. Cya 2-1 Bosnia victory.

Thats an unfair advantage to Norway.

Their first 3 games are Malta, Moldova and Norway. Why does Norway get the advantage of this???

The ban should be reduced to two games....

I think Greece and Turkey are on the same level, and probably the best teams of the group.
Easy or not those will be the qualifiers of the group.
Norway is nothing like they used to be, but they still dangerous especially in their home, the same goes for Bosnia.
I think the away games against Norway and Bosnia are going to settle the first place of the group.
As for us, if Rehhagel decides to put younger players in the field, instead of old crap, like Vryzas I’m sure we’ll do well.
A trio of Salpingidis Samaras Papadopoulos up front would be a killer one.
As for the advantage to Norway.
I don’t it will matter anyway.
