Martinez is a bit of curious case really. At Wigan it was thought he over-performed; At Everton that he under-performed. He seems to be respected in the uk cause he comes of intelligent in the media. His defensive football tactics (or lack of) were criticized heavily in the media though. So not sure how good or bad this is for Belgium. Having said that his still pretty young for a manager at 43 years of age. Its interesting opportunity for him as there are some talented players in the squad.

But is he a manager who could win WC for Belgium? Not so sure about that.

AVE MARTINEZ!

LVG could have been fun ... complete madman ... looks like the FA wanted a younger manager and they most likely couldn't afford the likes of LVG anyway ... an attacking style was a must ... somebody that will work for peanuts was really the only requirement though ... compared to Wilmots, he's a godsend ... TOLLE MARTINEZ! DEUS VULT! DEUS VULT! DEUS VULT!

Martinez is a manager that seemingly keeps getting hired on style over results. You say he over-performed with Wigan, but I can't agree with that. When he took over, they were a solid Premier League team, having finished 10th, 17th 14th and 11th in the previous 4 seasons. In his 4 years in charge, be finished 16th, 16th, 15th and then got them relegated in his final season. But because he played "good attacking football" he was somehow chosen to take over Everton. And he did well in his first year, finishing 5th. But they slumped to 11th last season (12th when he was sacked), with a squad that really should really be challenging for Europe.

With the group of players they have, they really should be hiring someone a level above Martinez in my opinion.

Maybe. Dont disagree. But there are contradictive circumstances in Belgium imo. They are somehow ranked top 1-2 what ever in the fifa rankings (yes never take them too srsly but still). They have some great players but to they actually have the power and money to lure a really top coach? Who they could have gone realistically?

Depends what way to look at. Maybe someone like Van Gaal or Hiddink? Belgium-Netherlands connection. But both seem passed it managers these days.

It is a big job for Martinez though. He will be judged on what he does at next world cup.

His major plus for them is that he's experienced with coaching in the premier league and working with premier league players, and an awful lot of Belgian NT players ply their trade in England.
