Steven Defour: will he ever make the move?

People were raving about him during the glory years of Standard, but unlike Feillani and Jovanovic, he's failed to make the move abroad.

Why is this? Standard asking too much? not so good?

and where do you see him ending up? will it be some Borussia Mönchengladbachlike club? which would be disappointing if you see what he was linked to before

Yeah he looked like the next best thing when he first emerged. I remember Ajax being linked to him on various occasions and iirc we've tried to sign him too.

At first I sorta considered him to be the Schaars of Standard - we all thought he was the one holding the team together but in the end he turns out to be a weak link. But after watching them play a couple of times, I think he's suffering from Standard's poor form. Some key players have left and not be replaced by men of equal quality. It's a bit like Shevchenko at Kiev where you think to yourself "Didn't you used to be good?" when in fact, he still is. Except it's hard to shine in a devalued team.

I think he's gonna travel the B-route: first to a slightly inconspicuous club in league like France or Germany, then onwards to a much bigger club. He has what it takes to succeed in Spain imo.

Defour lacks the proper mentality to make it big. He's just a big ****.

Defour is class, you see that standard even struggles harder when he is injured.

But he is dragged down with the team aswell, standard isnt the same class team then 2 years ago...

But i'm thinking he will make a move next summer

Stadard is a mess, very unbalanced team, several players with a bad attitude and they have changed a lot of players in a short time + Defour has had a lot of injuries lately. I wouldn't write him off just yet.

Didn't he buyout his own contract when at Genk when Ajax wanted to buy him but Genk was asking too much money? Then suddenly Ajax bailed out..
