[Beijing 2008] Belgium at the Olympics

Let's make a thread where we can have an overview of all the athletes that go to the olympics in Bejing. I think Belgium really has a strong selection this team, with two teams that are going.

-hockey
-football
-tennis: Henin
-Mountainbike: Roel Paulissen
-Athletics: Gevaert, Hellebaut, Dejaeghere,...
-table tennis: Saive?
-Judo?
-Swimming?
-Jumping?
-...

Help me, Jeebus!!!

We're quite lucky, only one player got selected. With a bit of luck Simaeys gets dropped for the final selection, so he can't get injured on the Olympics

It seems HSV doesn't want Kompany to go to Beijing. Francois De keersmaecker already added the Belgian FA can suspend Kompany during the Olympics, so he wouldn't be able to play with HSV.

Bad news, now they probably won't release Simaeys

I bet 50 euro that we get him back with an injury

Henin will be sadly missed, if she were on her best level she would have been a guarantee for a gold medal. Now I don't see many Belgians qualify for that, although you always do come home with some silverware. But just look at the women's tennis and how no player stood out of the shadow of Justine ; real pity she won't defend her medal from 4 years ago

Mbo Mpenza in the football squad?! What is this weird fetish of the KBVB with the Mpenza brothers?? Both of their careers went downhill ever since they left Mouscron, and that was like 8 or 9 years ago?? It is a miracle they still got selected for the NT until a recent past, and now they select Mbo for the olympics??

De Sart questions Kompany's decision to skip Olympics
Belgium manager Jean-François De Sart claims to be very surprised by Vincent Kompany's decision to skip the upcoming Olympic Games.

Hamburger SV manager Dietmar Beiersdorfer revealed the decision: "We spoke to Vincent and together we decided that it would be better for him to stay at Hamburger SV during the entire preparation [for next season].

De Sart told Belgian TV channel Sporza: "I don't want to comment on this because I don't know anything. The club or Kompany should call me first. From personal conversations I know that Vincent really wants to play at the Olympics."

Kompany's decision is De Sart's second major set-back. Steven Defour will not be going to the Olympics either and prefers to stay at Standard de Liege.

I'd rather see Lamah staying at Anderlecht, and Legear going to Beijing to be honest

Lamah won't be a starter, you don't lose much imo ...

If he continious playing like he did so far in the friendlies, he'll be a serious option

Surely then won't bench the 1.5 million €-man for Lamah

Although he would be a better option imo ... I guess Lamah can stand longer on his feet than 5 seconds?

€1.3 million to be clear. And he can play also in the center

They'll never bench Losada, Polak or Gillet ...
