EC '08 Qualifiers | Belgium vs Serbia | 22/08/2007

NT Coach Rene Vandereijcken announced his selection today for the game against Serbia:

Goalkeepers:
Logan Bailly (Racing Genk)
Olivier Renard (Standard)
Stijn Stijnen (Club Brugge)

Defenders:
Mark De Man (Anderlecht)
Carl Hoefkens (West Bromwich)
Vincent Kompany (Hamburg)
Nicolas Lombaerts (Sint-Petersburg)
Daniel Van Buyten (Bayern München)
Jelle Van Damme (Anderlecht)
Anthony Vanden Borre (Fiorentina)
Thomas Vermaelen (Ajax)

Midfielders:
Philippe Clement (Club Brugge)
Steven Defour (Standard)
Karel Geraerts (Club Brugge)
Maarten Martens (AZ)
Gabi Mudingayi (Lazio)
Timmy Simons (PSV)

Strikers:
Moussa Dembele (AZ)
Kevin Mirallas (Lille)
Mbo Mpenza (Anderlecht)
François Sterchele (Club Brugge)

Incredible ... Again no wing backs, again no wingers, so it's easy to predict: again a lost game ...

Mattheus 7:1-6

Today I read an interview with Vincent Kompany in De Gazet van Antwerpen.

He said the NT is divided in 2 parts, which is a big cause for our current bad results. There is just no unity in the selection.

He also wonders if the Belgian public wants him to play for the NT as he sees that Het Vlaams Belang gets 30-35% of the votes. He says it's important to be proud of your country. Talking about this problems brings reactions. Even if those are negative, it's good to talk about and try to find a solution.

I agree. Especially on his political point, I cant believe they are getting so many votes as well. The country needs to be united.

This country needs to be divided

Vlaanderen and Wallonie are two completely different nations, who have nothing in common.

People from Flanders don't identify themselves as Belgians, only Wallons do that ... and they forget that we also live in this country, and they're living from our money ...

I'm West-Flemish and proud of it! I don't want anything to do with those arrogant ********s from Antwerpen p . And neither do I want anything to do with those bastards from the coast, I'm a Brugge boy!

No seriously, speaking of cultural differences and different languages, well I grew up in a culture/mentality that is very different from the one in Antwerpen and West-Flemish is about as close to Antwerps as it is to German. Damn our government that that tries to keep these complete different regions artificially together!

In other news, Kompany is my favourite Belgian player and I used to support Henin when she played Clijsters .

Δεν ελπίζω τίποτε. Δεν φοβάμαι τίποτε. Είμαι λεύτερος.

Justice is judgement that is both fair and forgiving. Justice is not done until everyone is satisfied, even those who offend us. Justice is not only the way we punish those who do wrong but is also the way we try to save them.

a.He shouldn't juggle numbers he made up.
b.How does he know since he's been gone for 10 months?

One could divide the entity that is called Flanders(although historically Flanders is a region compromising of a piece of Nord-Pas-de-Calais, West-Flanders and the part of East-Flanders that is west of the Schelde

, thus in fact a part of E-F, Brabant , Antwerpen and Limburg is as Flemish as Walloonia) from Walloonia, but then it would be for merely economical reasons. I do not find myself connected more to Limburg for instance than to Walloonia. This being said in the light of the European superstate above the countries i do not see why there can be autonomous regions. Apparently there has to be some brutal conflict first (Kosovo) in order for this to happen which is a damn shame. Rant over.

About B: He talked about a year ago, when he was member of the NT. He even says he doesn't know if it's still so

We should go back to the time when cities like Ghent and Bruges were fighting each other... Tijl Uilenspiegel etc... We can all have national teams in our own city then.

Let's not go any deeper into this. Politics are forbidden on XT and the Belgian members get along nicely. No reason to screw that up by discussing these matters here.

All the divisions aside ( I'm married with a "wallony" girl, and yes she works many hours ) I still think that Belgium can win with a narrow score but yes... were are the wingers

Does our national coach have still a lot of credit ? ( don't follow our national team that much )
And if he has not, who will be considered ? ( Gerets, Antheunis, ... )

I'd go for De Sart ... He played good football with the -21 and knows the youngsters who need to develop in A-squad starters by 2010

Gerets will go to Standard, and Antheunis sucks
