After the 1-3 defeat against Beveren Cleisters got fired as coach of KV Mechelen. KV Mechelen was standing last in the Belgian Competition and this weekend it couldn't qualify for 1/8 finale of the Belgian Cup against Beveren and it could never take the match under control and the home(and away)fans start asking the firing of their coach. Assistant Coach Valerč Billen takes over the position of Coach till they find a replacement. Cleisters got offered another function in the club but he didn't decide yet. His daughter Kim won the tennis final in Leipzig and enters the top 20 of the WTA standings. Difficult times in the Cleister family

Well, what everyone was expecting finally happened ... When the board says they have full confidence in you, you better start to worry

I saw KV Mechelen last week and they were terrible ! They have some good players but if the board expect them to do much better then right now they are totally wrong.

Clijsters played defensive but still lost all the time .. I'm wondering who there new coach will be

It will be Valere Billen, but I don't know if that's permanent. The best move would be that the board would appologies on their knees to Gunther Jacob and beg him to come back. Still as I understood Billen has the same idea about football as Jacob. Last year their was an interview with him in VM and he explained his view on defending.

It was a very tacktical and theoretical explanation which to me looked as complete bs. He said that defending with 4 on a line is impossible since you always have to cover the back of your teammate (well duhh). Therefore Mechelen only played with 2 real defenders 'cause the full-backs were more like wingers. On the other hand since those 4 players at the back (which isn't the same as 4 defenders
) played on a diagonal (is this english ) line everybody covered everybodies back.

I went to see Mechelen a couple of times and you had to give it to the dup Jacob-Billen, Mechelen played as they said. On the other hand it showed how weak you are defensively. They were always 1 man short in defense. Result was that at "Achter de Kazerne" you were never bored . As soon as the other team switch the ball to the other side, Mechelen came in a 2 to 1 situation. Often resulting in a goal .

So although defensively their tacktics were completely stupid, it gave them always 2 people more in the attack. I striongly believe Jacob knew this. Whatever he did, with the material he had, you would always concede goals (look at what happened to Clijsters). Therefore you 'd better take the risk and bluf. His plan always was to make 1 goal more than the opponent. I think that is Mechelen's only chance, but perhaps now it's too late. The confidence needed to score goals is completely gone out of this team.

Thing seem to be completely out of hand at Mechelen. A part of the players-group refuse to work for Billen . They are send to the B-squad. Surprisingly they are the most experienced players as Camus, Debusschere, Peytier, Smidts , Greven, Van Hout and Dierckx, KV Mechelen has. From them I expected a bit more professionalism.

Aad 'afkoopsom' de Mos has offered himself to do something for the club. He has been unemployed for quite some time so that's no surprise.

De Mos is hired as Technical advisor and scoout. As if Mechelen hasn't got enough financial problems

They could also use a financial advisor if you look at this.
