A new start: Réné's first belgian selection for the friendly against Luxembourg!

Goalkeeper: Proto (Anderlecht), De Vlieger
(Manchester City)

Defence: Turaci (Fenerbahçe), Van
Buyten (Hamburg), Vanden Borre (Ander-
lecht), Van der Heyden (Wolfsburg),
Vermaelen (Ajax)

Midfield: Geraerts (Standard), Goor
(Anderlecht), Mudingayi (Lazio), Simons
(PSV), Buffel (Glasgow Rangers), Swerts
(Vitesse)

Attack: Huysegems (AZ), Mbo Mpenza
(Anderlecht), Pieroni (Auxerre), Sonck
(Mönchengladbach), Vandenbergh (Genk)

---------------------------------------------------

With a few (6) somewhat surprising names.
Thomas Vermaelen, Onder Turaci and Gilles Swerts get their first selection. Gaby Mudingayi, Stein Huysegems and Geert De Vlieger are back in the squad after a long absence.

"I never knew my birth parents. There was a car accident. my birth mother was incinerated, and I only survived because her smoking carcass had formed a protective cocoon of slaughtered human effluence. A Belgian man and his fifteen year-old love slave were looting the accident scene, came across a blood soaked baby, moi, and they raised me to be evil."

Someone finally selected the BEST players available and not "the regulars" (Bisconti, deschacht)....

PS: I thought Onder Turace already played for Turkey???

Why De Vlieger? He never plays at Man City, I'd have called Stijnen up instead.

Good to see Vanderhaeghe and Deschacht out .

Mudingayi hasn't been doing too bad lately for Lazio, but I'm not sure about Vermaelen.

why are you playing Luxemburg of all teams?

you'll have better before the next qualifiers, right?

We need a win and Luxemburg gives us the best chances.. (note i said good chances, not certainty)

VDE wanted a small competetor so he can get to know the players he is going to work with. If he took a strong nation like Brazil he had to spend 3 days adjusting the tactic to their opponent, which is -lets be fair- VDE's game. The qualifyers are still 8 months from now, can't see no harm in that.

... and o yeah, we could need a win to get a confident boost. Hopefully we can win this one.

BTW: I think it's just lovely to notice how 3 good games a season can earn you a call-up. -> Goor

I have had enough of Goor and Mpenza. They need to move on. Sonck is on my list also. We have no good forwards. They are good when they can be, but are very inconsistent. It pisses me off.

You would get rid of Sonck?
He's probably the only attacker we have who's capable of making a goal.
He has been injured for quite a while and his form sufferd a bit when he was on the bench at Ajax, but for me he's still one of the most important players we got. The first 2 year under AA his goal-record was sensational. Now he's back fit and playing first team football at B. Mönchengladbach I have no doubt in my mind he'll be scoring again under Vandereycken.

I agree on Goor and Mbo though.
Daerden is still injured, but for me he IS the belgian left-mid.

I'm a bit surprised that Roelandts didn't get a call up. He might be what we need until Defour is a bit older.

Why is Turaci not playing for Turkey? Except his nationality... he's a 'true Turk', at least he looks like that to me.

And why Swerts? Not a bad player... but I don't think he can help Balgium qualifying for EUro 2008...

Last, why oh why playing Luxembourg? Is that your current level?

Ibrahim Salou
(Zulte Waregem/Ghana), Igor De Camargo (Standard Liege/Brazil), Daniel Cruz (GBA/Columbia) and Mohamed Tchité (Standard Liege/Burundi) all have a naturalization process running and expressed a certain wish to wear the red devil jersey.

Oyeah and I didn't include Wamberto BTW.

Do you really want this to happen?
