In a game that turned out to be much easier than feared, Belgium beat Latvia 4-0. Already in the third minute, Wilmots buried a freekick of Johan Walem. Ten minutes later the man of the match Bob Peeters got passed Stepanovs and netted the 0-2 behind Latvian keeper Kolinko.

It was a decent game of the Belgian national side in which ‘de rode duivels’ proved that they can also win games that aren’t friendlies. A major factor it the decent play of tonight was Johan Walem. The Udinesse-player showed what difference a midfielder with a good technique and passing makes. The contrast with Wilmots in the former games was gigantic. Except from his goal, the Bordeau-player showed absolutely nothing. Sure he worked hard, but as always this didn’t resulted in better play of the team.

It’s also no coincidence that the defense didn’t have any real problems tonight. With Walem who can hold the ball, there is less pressure on the defenders. Although they played against Pahars a very respected striker in the Premier League, De Vlieger only had to catch one ball. The header from Stolcers ended on the stanchion after the Belgian national goalie showed a worldclass reflex.

In a good last ten minutes Belgium doubled the score. First there was Jurgen Cavens who scored his first goal for the national team after Kolinko magnificently saved a header from Verheyen. Minutes later it was Verheyen himself who stiffed the ball over the Latvian keeper to make it 0-4. A good result for the Belgian national side who can now wait comfortably for the game against San Marino next year.

Well, i'm surprised in a positive way ! I didn't see the game because of my work and i couln't believe it when i turned on the radio

I never expected this game to win and surely not this easily.. Can't believe Peeters was man of the match
It's really good to see Belgium win an important game. But what will Waseige do when Mpenza returns ? He won't let Wilmots out of the team and according to the reports a striker duo Peeters-Mpenza would be great. Walem also played great so Waseige will have a hard time to choose !
