I want YOU for the Belgian NT

So, just suppose Jan Peeters doesn't call Olson, Wilmots, VDE, etc. one of these days to ask to become the new bondscoach but you. What would your selection be and how would you play?

Nice that you picked out Blondel.

well, i'm a season-ticket holder for Brugge, and everytime he's on the pitch and has the ball, something good happens

But, for me, the most important thing in my line-up is removing Plastiek Deschacht from the team

I'm a season holder as well (223) and I would've liked that he replaced Ceh but ...

guess we'll have to be patient, we're having some hard times now, but that was expected.

What i like is that youngsters like VDL and Yulu are getting some playing time now

_______________ Proto _______________

VDB ___ Kompany __ Simons ___Deschacht

Dufer _____ Geraerts __ Blondel ___ Daerden

___________ Mbo _____ Emile _________

Mardulier, Hoefkens, Van Buyten, Buffel, Vermaelen, Vandenbergh

But in the end the NT-coach can only work with the players he has. I put Dufer and Blondel in there, because well every half-decent coach would line those 2 up at club level. More importantly are the youngsters. If they don't get enough playing time their development stagnates and they are going to waste. Here lies Belgium problem. For the last 10 years we have had good to very good -21NT. Those players at that age can compete with almost every team in the world of the same age. Still, 3-4 years later they end up being nobodies. Reason? Easy: none of them get a chance at their club, because we (coaches, fans, media) love experience. Every club has one: an average player (Vanderhaeghe, Zetterberg, Clement, Snoeckx,...) with a lot of matches in the 1e division who blocks youngsters with an incredible potential.

As a result you players as Legear, Yulu-Matondo, Faris Haroon (seriously Broos what an arse are you!!!),... who are at the point of going to waste. You can have Cruyff himself as our coach of our NT, it wouldn't make that much difference.

We can bomb the world to pieces, but we can't bomb it into peace!

Another rule that would pay of big time (although only on the long run) is: any player, no matter how good or important, that can not control a ball, any ball, in 1 time is not allowed in a NT, from the youngest team to the fanion squad.

VDB ___ Kompany __ Van Buyten/Simons ___Vermaelen

Buffel_____ Mudingayi__ Blondel___ Daerden

___________ Sonck_____ Emile _________

on a sidenote: Vermaelen, Blondel and Mudingayi are offcourse only options if they get regular playing-team. Nevertheless I always have been a big fan of Gaby and I hope we'll get see him in the NT once again.
I also think he brings a nice balance in my midfield which contains an ideal combination of physically strong players and the smaller but technically more refined players.

Vermaelen is just a matter of keeping this drama under the name of Olivier Deschacht out of the team.
If Emile get's injured (and he probably will) I'll choose Vandenbergh to take his place.

I rate Van Buyten and Simons equally high it's up to them to fight for a place in the starting line-up. (allthough this first one performed suprisingly strong in the last 4 games)

What's wrong with Deschacht? Certainly when the Rode Duivels have troubles scoring goals, we need someone like him No seriously, Deschacht is the best we have. That said I haven't seen Vermaelen play as leftback so maybe he is an option.

Vandenbergh, Sonck and/or Buffel are not competible. They lack hight.

I saw Vermaelen play left-back in all the 3 games on the EC -19.
Lomaerts and Wuytens were the central defenders. Vermaelen and Spinaso were wing-backs.

Emile and Jeromeke aren't that tall either. The difference is that of them have a rather strong physical appearance where Sonck, Vandenbergh and Buffel are more featherweights. :undecide:

But I still believe Sonck and Vandenbergh are competible. Buffel and Sonck are both players that tend to go deep where Vandenbergh is more of a statical striker and is pretty good at dodging to ball.
Besides in the second half of the season (2002/2003?) Vandenbergh and Sonck played quite a lot of games next to each other at Genk.

But if you like; we still have Bobke Peeters.

Vermaelen doesn't play leftback for us anymore, neither did he for RKC last season. If you play against a team with no rightwinger I think he can play there, but otherwise I'm not too sure.

From the line-ups you have presented so far the defense looks more than decent, but the rest... I don't trust the family Mpenza upfront for instance, so Euro 2008 might be too early too for this team. Oldies must go though.

No he was born in Burundi and will soon be Belgian. Since he wasn't known in his country of birth he can become Belgian international.

I'm interested in whether you guys would pick Steed Malbranque to play for your NT if he decided to, poor dude must be bored of waiting for France.

I would welcome him with open arms. He's got strong connections with our country after all and even if he hadn't, we've brought in the likes of Vidovic, Oliveira and Weber in the past. I know Steed has expressed a remote interest in playing for us, but he really needs to stop being ambiguous and be louder about his availability. Time's running out...

While we're at it, Valérien Ismaël is welcomed as well.
