The Belgians in the UEFA-cup

First round draw today:

Beerschot is not seeded and can meet the following teams:

Bayer 04 Leverkusen (GER)
Olympique de Marseille (FRA)
PFC CSKA Moskva (RUS)
FK Crvena Zvezda (SCG)
Grasshopper-Club (SUI)

Genk is seeded and has the following list of possible opponents:

Aris Thessaloniki FC (GRE)
PFC Litex Lovech (BUL)
FC Baník Ostrava (CZE)
Maccabi Petach-Tikva FC (ISR)
Malmö FF (SWE)
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Looks bad for de ratten, hopefully, they can pull off a stunt against Red Star or Grasshopper. Red Star'll miss Zigic (who was sent off last night) during at least one game.

Genk has a relatively hard job ahead of them, though they should be able to qualify for the group stage.

Genk plays against Litex Lovech from Bulgaria. Genk has the away game first.

Beerschot draws Olympique Marseille. They play at home first.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Doable job for Genk, nearly impossible for Beerschot.

de ratten will be tested very hard. Sh*t!!!!!!!! I hope it is not too painful......And we play at home first! damn.
Also the fact that beerschot is playing really bad so far is upsetting.

Well, not a terrible result, 0-0 for GBA-Marsielle. Anyone see the game???? I need highlights. How did GBA play? Ball possesion? any shots on goal? I am surprised they did not concede a goal. Now it is difficult going to France to win, but I think they may be able to pull off an upset, if some players get healthy.

Genk is in a very good position
Litex 2 - 2 Genk
With 2 away goals, they are probably going through at home.

There is a report on the Sporza-website together with reactions:

that websites video is always choppy for me. But I read the report. It seems a difficult task to qualify, but hopefully they pull another upset, like they did with Club Brugge...

In a nutshell:
Marseille was (surpisingly) weak. But Germinal Beerschot was too gutless to take advantage of it.
In an entire game I didn't see one decent chance for either one of the teams. Marseille came for a 0-0 score (I mean why?) and the 'brave' rats who lined 9 up defenders seemed to be too afraid to go forward. Good thing them is that in the next game they probably (?) have Messoudi, Prince and a fit Cavens back.

We really need Cavens fit. That will make a big difference. Also Dosunmu, what a major loss when he got injured. How did Ozturk play? I would love to see them spoil OM's chance in France, but it seems we are screwed. GBA is not the type of team who will attack, they always defend up and wait for mistakes (mostly their own....)

End of xtratime. 120 minutes have been played without a goal. Game goes into penalties.

BTW: you gotta love those dutchies from Eurosport.
First they announcent the game as Marseille-Antwerp, now the commentator keeps talking about a team called 'germinal'.

Cool!
Beeschot-fan you just missed an awesome quote.
The commentator was talking about the tinny team of Germinal Beerschot against a big team like Marseille. On which he added: "not even the biggest team of Antwerp; that's the royal antwerp football club who played Parma in an european final a few years ago."
