Turkey is the new Germany

The grit, the determination...

I love you Turkey

My weekly rant!

27th May 1965: Over 16,000 days.

"For a moment there I returned to my youth, the early youth, when all nice illusions were gathered together. Then life came and, like a strong wind, blew them away, one by one. What we call happiness is sometimes the accordance between our life and circumstances, our biography and history, our personal aspirations and historical currents. If I look at things that way, I can say: I was born too early to be happy. But birth is one of the many things we do not get to choose. It is part of our destiny."

Well, give credit where its due, but this is mostly about Turkey's determination and heart. Yes the Turks have some skill too, but being behind in two games, and then coming back in top level football is unusual for a reason. Switzerland could have easily won that game against them, and maybe if not for Cech mistake this game, maybe not today either.

This is why they play the games, but I don't think you can look at Turkey beating a very poor side like Switzerland (who had absolutely no finish), and a solid but unexceptional side like Czech, while being down in both games, as a good thing.

Exciting games that they have been involved in, and its hard not to get behind such heart and determination, but lets not make those comparisons. Turkey are still a side that is a notch below the top nations.

Don't insult Turkey like that

Poor Cech he's going to get ripped on this mistake for years to come.

Great determination but the Czechs could and should have easily won that game. They had a chance to go up 3-0 but hit the post. Then Koller misses an easy one on one. The coach doesn't sub Koller despite the fact that he offers nothing to a team that's defending. Nothing on the counter. Then Cech makes the mistakes and there ya go.

Credit to Turkey but it was more about luck, the Czechs coaching, and their bunker tactics that gave you the match.

Turkey's second half performance was great. As I said, Czechs scored while Turkey were with 10 man on the field. Even after, Turkey played a lot better and won. First half was just about nervous players running.

You can't judge football like that. I mean, how did you beat Germans? Both goals were silly mistakes by Germans, that second one was shameful, plus a coach keeping Jansen-Fritz-Gomez on for the first half and almost a whole second half? lol.. that is football man... like Terim says ..

Everything is something happened...

You'll win. You'll play to win. But whatever the result, you were always winners in my heart and champions. And you'll stay that way. GOD HELP YOU!

- Fatih Terim, UEFA Cup final vs. Arsenal pre talk.

I didn't say Turkey didn't play better in the 2nd half, i said that the Czechs had a lot of things go against them today that cumulated into Turkey winning the game.

What chances did Germany have against us that were anything like those that the Czechs had today? Did they hit the post? Were any of their players 1 on 1 with our keeper? What did they create after pulling one back?

We had good control of the Germany game throughout. Germany were lucky our players can't finish worth a shit.

Turkey have been AMAZING in this tournament and I hope this is just the beginning of them establishing themselves as a potential contender for all big tournaments. Just great stuff to be doing as good as they are.
