Germany - Austria

Monday 20:45 June 16 2008

Alemania vs Osterrich

Germany with 3 points go to this game in full force, i don't think there will be but a slight chance for Austria to get out with any point

with Poland having 1 point, winning against Croatia (who will play with their substitute team) qualifies them to the quarter finals if Germany lose

without Schwensteiger (who got sent off against croatia) David Odonkor will play in the right flank

Key Players:

Germany:

Lukas Podolski: with 3 goals in 2 games Podolski will do his best to help Germany Qualify to the Quarter Finals

Austria:

Vastic, who scored the penalty that gave austria 1 point could make a mark in his last game (if they lose) with Austria

Predicted Result: 2-1 Germany with Austria giving the Germans a hard time

Despite living in Germany, I am going to root for Austria tomorrow. Before the tournament nobody gave Austria the slightest chance to advance, wouldn't it be wonderful if they prove the whole world wrong and meanwhile beat their most bitter rivals on the way?

And definitely don't rule out Austria winning. Germany is not convincing at all right now and Löw is under a lot of pressure from the media.

I'm rooting for Austria in this one... The way they played their first two games they deserve something out of this tournament. They've shown that what they lack in talent they can make up for by playing with heart and pride.

If they play like that against Germany, I hope they get a result.

Morally obligated to root for Austria, of course. Not that I think it's going to help, but it would be sweet if they knocked out the Germans.

La Juve? Lasciamo perdere.

It will be 1992 all over again when all of Europe rooted for Denmark vs Germany

lol thanks for making me laugh.
Odonkor will never ever start in a tournament game.
He shouldnt be even anywhere near the german NT and even Löw realised that just subbing him in is already a big mistake.

So now from someone with a clue about the german team:

Hitzlsperger is most likely to replace Podolski as LM.
Podolski will be used as striker and Gomez benched.
A. Friedrich will replace Jansen who is injured but would have been replaced anyways.
Lahm will then move to the LB position with Friedrich as RB.
Fritz might stay in midfield though there is also a decent chance that Borowski will play instead of him.

Friedrich---Metzelder--Mertesacker--Lahm
Borowski/Fritz--Frings--Ballack--Hitzlsperger
--------------Klose----Podolski-----------

Thats how germany is gonna play.

I guess besides some 80 million Germans the whole of Europe is hoping for an Austrian win.
However, I expect Germany to dominate and win easily.

I can imagine a few punters here in England will be rooting for Germany as they were heavily backed before the competition.

After what I've seen in today's match, I hope that Germany wins because if Austria gets to play with us in the Quarter Finals we will be kicked out by the ref.

2-0 to Deutschland although it'd be hilarious if Austria made it. Unfortunately they lack any real international quality up front.

easily? I don't know. When the boys throw with insults, they should have something in their balls, literally.

however due to the inability to score goals, or even to tap in, we might as well loose.
