Portugal - Switzerland

Sunday 20:45 June 15 2008

Unimportant match really, Portugal have secured qualification while Switzerland are out of it

it will be interesting to see how well can Switzerland do against the Portoguese

Key Players:

Switzerland:

Hakan Yakin, A Forward with Turkish origins, scored Switzerland's only goal in the championship

Portugal:

Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the best players in the year (got 3rd place), having a good start in the euro scoring a goal and making an assist

Expected Result: 3-0 Portugal, easy match for the Portuguese, C.Ronaldo scoring two goals and moutinho with the third

Can Anyone make this a poll please?

You don't really expect us to play our full starting XI with first place already secured, do you?

Anyhow, there's no way a few guys will play.

First off, Bosingwa. Has a yellow card, no need to risk, and good to get Miguel some time.

Deco. Always an injury risk, he needs his rest. Allows Moutinho to play more advanced.

Simao. Hasn't impressed in the first two games, showing a very poor team attitude, and Quaresma scored in the last game(albeit a tap-in). Ricardo should get the opportunity here to shine.

Nuno Gomes. Has played well despite no goals, but is a veteran of the team and should get rest. Also allows Hugo Almeida and Helder Postiga to get some time and find form as we may need them later on.

Zanetti : I still remember my first day at Inter. I arrived with a plastic bag with my boots inside and I crossed the crowd of fans who were asking who I was. That's where it all started.....

Risking any of your best performers in a meaningless match would be suicidal and losing any of them to a freak injury/suspension would be unforgivable IMO.

I hope that's not the lineup. Quaresma deserves a rest this summer. No way in hell should he be started.

From goal.com:

"There are no injuries to report from the Portugese camp, but Scolari is rumoured to be resting the likes of Simao, Deco and Ronaldo.

Probable starting line-up (4-5-1): Ricardo - Bosingwa, Pepe, Carvalho, Ferreira - Quaresma, Moutinho, Petit, Deco, Ronaldo - Nuno Gomes"

So goal.com say Scolari is rumoured to be resting Simao, Deco and Ronaldo, but according to the 'probable' line-up, still intends on starting Deco and Ronaldo. Hmmm. Livescore's is surely the most accurate of the two. By Far.

The Portuguese website MaisFutebol got the scoop before it has been announced officially, so here it is what seems to be our line-up for tonight's game:

Ricardo

Miguel - Bruno Alves - Pepe - Paulo Ferreira

Fernando Meira - Miguel Veloso

Raúl Meireles

Nani ----------------- Quaresma

Hélder Postiga

Scolari going really for the B team, only leaving Ricardo P. Ferreira and Pepe from the previous starting XIs.

He's not going to Inter so shove off.

Filipe is in the know clearly so he can't really reveal where Quaresma is going. Not to mention the Portugal Football Federation pays 100% of Quaresma's wages, so it is better to keep quiet while he is playing for them.
