*Netherlands VS France* June 13 - 20:45 Berne

Friday 13 June 2008
20:45
Berne - Stade de Suisse

France will hope their fixture with the Netherlands in Berne will prove as much as stepping stone to success as past encounters with the Oranje have been.

• Les Bleus beat the Netherlands en route to the semi-finals at EURO '96™ and four years later went on to win UEFA EURO 2000™ despite losing to the Dutch in their final group game, with qualification already assured. That will not be the case here but events at the Stade de Suisse Wankdorf are likely to prove pivotal for both sides' hopes of further progress.

• The Netherlands came from behind twice to defeat France 3-2 in Amsterdam in the group stage at UEFA EURO 2000™. Christophe Dugarry and David Trezeguet struck for Les Bleus but those goals were cancelled out by Patrick Kluivert and Frank de Boer respectively before Boudewijn Zenden struck the Dutch winner.

I do believe France will win this, even if of course as an Italy fan a draw or even defeat for France is what we need in this group.

Hup Holland!

My weekly rant!

27th May 1965: Over 16,000 days.

"For a moment there I returned to my youth, the early youth, when all nice illusions were gathered together. Then life came and, like a strong wind, blew them away, one by one. What we call happiness is sometimes the accordance between our life and circumstances, our biography and history, our personal aspirations and historical currents. If I look at things that way, I can say: I was born too early to be happy. But birth is one of the many things we do not get to choose. It is part of our destiny."

I bloody hope so.

France can't play any worse and I'm sure that they will be more than ready to take the might of the Dutch.

I want Netherlands to win.

If Romania get a point (at least) from Italy we would be in a very good situation then.

i will put what happened in the 1st round and their results behind and say that France are able to win this game and they have nothing to lose . that`s cause they know that the 3rd game will be against italy , so both will be tough tests for them . also , it would no be a nice thing for such french team to be knocked out of the tournament early .

we are promised with another interesting game , absolutely !

i think we should come down after the euphoria of crushing italy and wake up otherwise we could get knocked out....if we win we go thru top of the group, am betting on a draw, but in many ways minus ribery france is the same old tired squad like italy with not as good a keeper, but much much better defence...if we lose still ok as i think we can beat romania......

would be GREAT for football if romaniana nd holland qualify and france and italy get knocked out p then they are forced to build new young teams...

Bill Shankly: "If you're in the penalty area and you're not sure what to do, stick it in the net and we can discuss the options afterwards."

I wonder if Holland beat France and Italy-Romania draw... will Holland let Romania beat them in the final game?

You bet they would. They wouldn't want to face us in the semis.

Best result for us would be if Holland France finishes 0-0.

"I went to a football school 60 miles away from where I lived. I practised 12 hours a day, training both feet so thoroughly, that I no longer know which is better. At Sparta Prague, I would retake the field after a match and train until the floodlights were extinguished."

I've got butterflies in my stomach at the fact that its make or break time for France.

I just want France to play with more passion and determination! Not too much to ask is it?

If France don't be a little more adventurous through central midfield or through their fullbacks, this game will finish 0-0 again.

However if they do look to push their fullbacks on a little more to join the attack, as they should've done more often against Romania, the game could open up and be quite entertaining.
