F*ck the Darkhorses

This is the tournament of their downfall. They are so overhyped for these tournaments. All of Greece, Czech, Croatia, Romania, played boring bunker crap football. To be fair, Italy and France haven't done much better but we don't recieve the glowing praise these darkhorses do at present. I think the problem is that since Greece won Euro 2004 by playing boring defensive football all these usually great attacking teams have now decided to play the same football in these tournaments in hopes of doing the same.

I say the sooner they drop out the better. I don't blame them for their tactics because it is the most likely to win them the tournament. However it doesn't mean we have to like it.

can't have decent darkhorses in every tournament I guess

Big games are easy than the other games, unfortunately. Every times we have the control the games, under the control the games, during the games we had the some possibilities, some big chances, some big okazyons, something like that but what can I do, sometimes? And….it’s the football, that’s the football, something happened. Everything is something happened. - Fatih Terim

Johnny I seriously wonder if you have split personality syndrome.

I mean you just started a thread yesterday complaining about boring football.

well lets be honest if any of these dark horses impressed in the first round and looked like potential world cup winners, they wouldn't be dark horses now would they, they'd be favorites

dark horses one doesn't even notice until they knockout some favorite or get extremely far.

Being 2 goals down for most of the game, I guess even they somehow had to take a few risks more than usual. As a matter of fact, I think Italy should start every game being 2 goals down, then I might even watch the entire game without being in a danger of puking.

Let's see, the darkhorses can't be overwritten yet, there's bound to be some in the Q-F's, and anyone can spring a surprise in a Q-F match and get to the semi's, damn only 1 matchday gone so far.

Italy is definitely not a defensive team anymore. Yes we defend if we are leading towards the end of a game... just like any damn team out there... but we do not start a game with the intention of holding off a team for a 0-0 draw or even a scrappy 1-0 win. We do not play such a possession game, but we do try to play football in a quicker style and we do create chances. There is no way Italy can be called a defensive team anymore and anyone who has seen our matches recently will say this also.

Unfortunately though Donadoni was a retard last night and bottled it, but hopefully we will see the true Italy when/if De Rossi and Aquilani enter the midfield and Grosso is started at LB.

I thought Grosso did well when he came on but I was surprised to see De Rossi left out (had to ditch him from my dream team).

As said Donadoni was being a retard. He did everything wrong. He left out the best perfomring attacking full-back for Italy in the last 2 years. He played the all-mighty 5th place in Serie A, taken the p!ss out of by Arsenal... Milan midfield. He played the 2 defenders who were in the worst shape in Serie A this season together. Above all of this he played a system that simply could not allow us to start well... his substitutions were good, even if a little late, so at leas in the 2nd half we showed some good football even if it was eventually 3-0.

On the original question (as Italy wasn't a dark horse): Sweden is the only over performing "small" team from round one (not really counting Croatia, maybe I should). I doubt that they will keep it up, but it was a good start

They played well (ish), i wouldn't say it was something to take note over, even though they did better than what Croatia did v a worser Austria team.

Sweden still don't have that quality, barring Zlatan. Some of their players that start are....well i'm not gonna say what, Alexandersson? Folk like that.

Greece has a nice team with good players but it's the coach and his tactics that fukk them all up! and if you do otherwise you probably will be taken out of the game and benched the next 2. Just like our fukked in the head coach Greece suffers from the same problem.

Greece won the Euro and surprised us all... plaing defensive football, but well deserved... with that in mind I thought this year they could at least have a bit of a go. Im not saying go all out attack, but maybe play with some ambition. None at all.

I agree Sweden probably wont go beyond QF's at best. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is definetily our best player, head and shoulders above the rest. But Sweden have other players that can win games. I'm thinking of Larsson who is a absolute genius, he is very intelligent and has been key to playmaking for Sweden lately(he assisted Zlatan's goal brilliantly today)

Then there is players like Källström(Who unforunately didnt play), Rosenberg(Neither did he), and Ljungberg who can be influental on a good day

I consider Ljungberg and Larsson as being good players, though the latter is not in his prime anymore.
