Will this be an entertaining tournament

Well WC 2002 was horrendous in terms of football and the 200 WC was similar. Euro 2004 was semi-decent with a good Czech side but even then I don't think there has been a good football tournament bar maybe the Copa America since Euro2000. So will this tournament break the mould of horrendous tournaments or will we see more teams afraid of losing and a severe lack of quality and excitement. Maybe UEFA should hire just Spanish refs just for the pure entertainment and shock they'd provide p

i think it will be another negative affair.

Attacking football is simply not the 'in' thing anymore.

I'm already waiting for the usual whining crowd who seriously expect teams to come out to play entertaining and open football instead of setting the win as their main objective.

Big games are easy than the other games, unfortunately. Every times we have the control the games, under the control the games, during the games we had the some possibilities, some big chances, some big okazyons, something like that but what can I do, sometimes? And….it’s the football, that’s the football, something happened. Everything is something happened. - Fatih Terim

Every international football competition has, in my eyes, been entertaining in its own ways and this one wont be an exception to that. Also, as far as I can remember no recent tournament has had a 'group of death' like the one we'll all soon witness.

For those who want to see free flowing attacking football all the time, they're undoubtedly going to be left disappointed. Greece showed it's not all about that.

all International football will be disappointing since we are so used to the club game and CL later stages, International football just can't compete with that anymore.

think of it as an exhibition tournament, you will see a few great individual moments but it's not really a serious competition.

Am going to miss laughing at englands performance, the usual huge anti-climax on their expected performance, as well as supporting some teams they would be playing :depress:

There will be a few entertaining games in the group stages and maybe if a non-fancied team gets through to the knockout stage could be good just for the fact that it is something new. Other than that the teams that advance are the same and know each other inside out. Makes for tight games, cancelling each other out. Maybe they will surprise us.

So all in all no respite for Arfy p

well , we all hope teams in this tournament play open games and to see the entertainment as their main objective .. but , this will be really difficult to happen . all teams try represent their countries superbly and not to be knocked out quickly from the competition . they look at the title and it`s , so they will try not to conceed any goal , then try their best to score which sometimes affect badly the show of the game itself .

England arent here so there is a better chance of some nice football. Particularly from Portugal, Spain, Holland will probably have some good matches with Italy and France. I think it will be an interesting tournament with decent football.

that's a bit cheap isn't it, yes all the previous crap tournaments were down to us, we were also responsible for China and Burma, and john Terrys tears have triggered the next world disaster whenever it happens.

yeah but so have almost all of the others as well, that's the point.

Germany v Italy in the last tournament was about the only match in the tournament that was anything special.

I just hope that the story of Euro 2004 doesn't repeat, I don't want another ultra defensive team to win the cup

Well not really, there are other interesting matches too, even in WC2006, but many people choose just to remember the SF and Final.

For example, Argentina v Mexico, Germany - Argentina, Spain - France, Croatia - Australia, Argentina and Holland v Ivory Coast... and some more, even England v Sweden was decent, but mainly because there wasnt much to play for p

Oh and even the final in 2006 wasnt that bad, it was tense, dramatic, maybe not champagne football, but you rarely get that in any final.

Every tournament is like this though... you get some great matches, good matches and poor matches.... even the CL is like this, but because it is more regular and with many more matches it is easier to remember the greater matches.

I think a lot will depend on Italy vs Holland which is the first big game of the tournament.

If one team beats the other playing good futebol, it will open the entire tournament where teams will see that playing attacking futebol is the way to go. If we see a boring a 1-0 battling win to either team, then I'd expect a dull tournament.

Holland will be great to watch. We're going to be the Spurs of Euro 2008 in a world of footballing cowards

With no defence, but 3 out and out attacking midfielders with a lot of movement and creativity behind the horse, it'll be mouthwatering viewing.

Every lover of good football will be rooting for us.

I don't think we'll go far though.

yes, I can almost guarantee the final will be 0:0 or 1:1 with the game going the penalties. I can almost guarantee than both semi-finals will go to penalties

seems like teams are so afraid to open up in big games because of the pressure involved
