UEFA changes the NT coefficient system

EXCO approves new coefficient system -> uefa.com.

PDF file describing the system -> uefa.com.

If the mods think this doesn't belong here, please move it to the proper forum. Thanks.

I like this! Israel and Norway both in the second jar!

I probably will get weird reactions for this, but I think everyone should get in the same jar and then just draw, that's the most honest way. There is the risk of getting a group full of minnows (Andorra-Liechtenstein-Malta-San Marino-Luxembourg) while the top teams all get in the same group but that's quite unlikely and would be a huge coincidence so I don't think we should worry about it (and if it's happen: that's the charm of an open draw and part of football). Point is that coefficients are never 100% accurate unless they no longer count in friendlies, just like tennis rankings only take real tournaments in consideration. I would prefer an open draw without any different vases to divide the teams.

UEFA never took into account friendlies.

I agree, but UEFA would never risk such a scenario, it could ruin the European Championships financially.

That just shows football is not a corporate thing and not about sports anymore. A draw without seeded teams is the only fair system. Just think: with 52 UEFA members, the chances are 1 in 1000 that all minnows would end in a same group, the chances of that happening are extremely extremely small. And should it happen, well there is something charming about Liechtenstein playing a big tournament

By the way, Luxembourg once almost made the European Championships, they even eliminated the Netherlands in what was one of the biggest shocks ever in European football. That happened long time ago of course.

but this ay you get the best at euros, imagine if Spain, England, France and Italy miss out to Moldova, Estonia and alike..

Actually I don't agree with the non-seeded system... It's not more fair; it's less fair.

I think that there could be improvements in ranking teams, but that the current system should stay...

I think for the qualifiers there still should be pots and seeds but maybe for the actual tournaments it should be an open draw. It would certainly be more interesting.

In the qualifiers it would be unlikely, as people mentioned before there could be a group with England, France, Germany, Holland etc.. and only two teams qualify while there could be a group of Estonia, Andorra, Malta, San Marino Kazakhstan, Serbia and two of these lesser sides qualify p

There still a long way to go - the WC 2010 qualifiers will also count.
