Sorry guys, but no way Holland will win this tournament.

In Van der Sar we have a great goalkeeper but our whole defence is average, our midfield unbalanced and our attack has problems scoring lately. I don't see how Van Basten will solve this issue in just 6 months.

Well this happens to Italy all the time. I think Holland have a very good squad. Not sure if they will win it, but I predict them to do so

Much can happen in a few months; this is how I envision things. Obviously this is all guess work, anything can happen. I believe home advantage will only benefit one of the two host countries game wise, that being in the favour of Switzerland. I am hoping this tournament will be a shocker, for me that would preclude Germany, Portugal, France, and Holland, and Sweden not advancing beyond the group stage. I think superior team chemistry and better play from less favoured teams will cause those so-called “shockers.”

Group A:
Switzerland - Czech R. 0:1
Portugal - Turkey 1:1
Czech R. - Portugal 2:2
Switzerland - Turkey 1:0
Switzerland - Portugal 2:1 (dramatic game with the winner being scored in the 80ish mins)
Turkey - Czech R. 1:2

Czech R. 7
Switzerland 6
Portugal 4
Turkey 1

Group B:
Austria - Croatia 0:3
Germany - Poland 0:1
Austria - Poland 1:1
Croatia - Germany 2:2 (Germany blow 2-0 lead)
Austria - Germany 1:2
Croatia - Poland 1:1

Croatia 5
Poland 5
Germany 4
Austria 1

Group C:
Romania - France 2:0 (France dominate game, but Romania capitalizes on their chances)
Holland - Italy 0:1
Italy - Romania 1:2
Holland - France 1:1
France - Italy 1:1
Holland - Romania 2:2

Romania 7
Italy 4
France 2
Holland 2

France will play very well in all of their games, however, not capitalizing on golden opportunities will end up haunting them.

Group D:
Greece - Sweden 1:0
Spain - Russia 2:1
Greece - Russia 1:0
Sweden - Spain 1:1
Greece - Spain 0:1
Russia - Sweden 1:0

Spain 7
Greece 6
Russia 3
Sweden 1

Spain will play a dominant group stage but then disappoint as they usually do.

Quarterfinals:
Czech R. - Poland 1:2 (Czech R. lead 1-0 after 1st half)
Croatia - Switzerland 3:1
Romania - Greece 2:2 (3-2 after ET)
Italy - Spain 1:0 (Italy wears down Spain with defensive game after early goal)

Semifinals:
Poland - Croatia 2:2 (1:1 after ET, Croatia wins 3-1 on penalties)
Romania - Italy 1:1 (1:1 after ET, Romania wins 4-3 on penalties)

Final:
Croatia - Romania 2:2 (2:3 after ET) Game of the tournament

Champion: Romania

WOW, why do people consider Portugal such a threat?

In Euro 2008 qualifying they:

- tied Finland twice
- lost to Poland once, tied them once
- tied Serbia twice
- tied Armenia
- Barely beat Kazakhstan and Armenia (only by 1 goal each, an 90+ minute goal vs. Kazakhstan

= No wins vs. the 3 decent teams in their group (Poland, Serbia and Finland). I didn't know that beating Azerbaijan meant so much.

Their "golden generation", I have a feeling they will struggle at Euro.

They have an amazing squad, it occurs very often that big teams play much better in these tournaments.

Quarter-Finals
Portugal vs. Croatia
Germany vs. Czechs
Holland vs. Spain
Sweden vs. France

Semi-Finals
Germany vs. Croatia
Holland vs. France

Final
Holland vs. Croatia

**The results for the final four are too tough to guess, but I'm pretty confident that one of those four teams will win it all. So this isn't necessarily what I think will occur, but it's what I'm hoping for.

These predictions were based on the recent performances of the countries as well as a little bit of bias.

You can never dismiss a team with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Quaresma, Nani, Deco, Simao, Carvalho, Miguel, Veloso and Bosingwa just to name a few. If you knew the team as well as I do, they struggled through qualification mostly because of injuries and the addition of the younger bunch like Moutinho, Nani, Quaresma, Manuel Fernandes, Bruno Alves, Veloso and Almeida.

To say they have no class players makes no sense.

Portugal qualified easily for the 2002 and 2006 World Cup's and crashed out of 2002 in the group stage and actually didn't play so well in the group stage of 2006. On the other hand, France struggled to qualify for 2006, winning 5 and drawing 5 and made it to the final. Italy won 7, drew 2 and lost 1 and won the WC. So for many of these big countries, it's all about getting in form.

I never said they had no class players, but the days with Figo, Pauleta, Rui Costa, Nuno Gomes, Vitor Baia etc. are no more. This is the team that dominated at the youth level and excelled at the international stage in major tournaments.

All of the players you mentioned are not impact players like the players mentioned above were. Ronaldo is obviously class, but you can't honestly tell me Nani can change a game like Rui Costa could, or that Ricardo is a more reliable keeper than Baia was.

What does it matter anyways? It's only my opinion. We'll see whether I'm right or wrong during Euro 2008.

EDIT: I see how you could've misinterpreted what I meant because of the way I wrote it, but I changed it.

Ricardo is twice the keeper Baia was. Ricardo was solid in 2 major tournaments (Euro 2004 & 2006 World Cup) playing a critical role in penalty shoot-outs. Nani and Rui Costa play two different positions. Deco, Moutinho and even Manuel Fernandes are more comparable to him. It's hard to replace players like Figo, Rui Costa and Pauleta as much as it's hard to replace players like Zidane, Giggs, Nedved or Totti.

However, this Portuguese team is much different from all the others in that it has depth. For most of Euro qualifying we ran a second string defense and it amazed me how good it was. Back during the Golden Generation, Portugal would have gotten dismantled running whatever second defense they had. Portugal has plenty of impact players in Ronaldo (as you mentioned), Quaresma, Deco, Nani and Simao to make something happen. I'm confident Hugo Almeida will be able to do well at ST as he's been playing quite well for Bremen.

The only problem with Portugal is that they lack a true captain/leader.
