"The official UEFA EURO 2008™ mascot will be presented at a media conference in Vienna next Wednesday - and the Austrian and Swiss public will choose the mascot's name.
11 October appearance
Created by Warner Bros. Consumer Products, the mascot will be used throughout the UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying competition following its launch. Its first appearance on a football pitch is scheduled to take place on 11 October, when 2008 co-hosts Austria and Switzerland meet in a friendly match in Innsbruck.
Football fans to name mascot
The mascot will be christened in Innsbruck the day before the friendly. Its name will be decided by Austrian and Swiss football fans, who can select their favourite moniker from three possibilities between 27 September and 8 October.
Different voting methods
Votes can be cast at www.euro2008.com
until 8 October, where all participants will be entered in a draw to win mascot prizes. In Switzerland and Austria, supporters can vote in McDonald's restaurants until 5 October, with one voter in each country winning two tickets for the friendly on 11 October.
A third method of voting is provided by Austria's first UEFA EURO 2008™ National Supporter, Telekom Austria, via the hotline number 0901062008 (€0.60 per call) until 8 October. "
Interesting, has this been done before? I've never heard of this system but its a cool idea. What do you guys think and would you spend cash to vote on the name?
