ECQ- Group F

1 Denmark 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
2 Iceland 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
3 Latvia 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
4 Liechtenstein 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
5 Northern Ireland 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
6 Spain 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
7 Sweden 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

Spain'll be the favourites to top this group. Sweden'll as usual be a tricky side for all but with Henke not there anymore and Ljungberg on his last legs, I feel Denmark'll pull it off as they'll be looking to put behind them the disappointment of not qualifying for this summers world cup.

Spain and Denmark for me

For the first time in a loooooong time Spain has a real tough group in the qualifiers for a big international competition and it would be nice to see them missing it for a change

In any case to be realistic I feel they will manage to go through and there will be a tough competition between Sweden and Denmark to qualify. Having in mind that Lagerbäck is staying I fear Denmark might have an advantage here but I hope Sweden can make it.

Be a disaster for Denmark to miss a second major tournament in a row.

Swedish coach Lagerbäck has done well with Sweden in two Tournaments, WC 2002 and EC 2004 and the qualifiers of course, for that I thank him but I am no longer so sure he'll keep up the success..
In WC 06 Sweden weren't consistent at all, while I didn't expect a victory against Germany I think Sweden didn't live up to the expectations. Lagerbäck was stubborn to use the "has been" players like Allbäck, Jonsson, Alexandersson. And worse, Alexandersson as a RB who isn't used to even playing in the defence.. Thankfully Jonsson and maybe Lucic has chosen to quit the NT themselves. But that still leaves Allbäck and Alexandersson. Elmander is much more qualified for replacing Larsson in my opinion. I really hope Lagerbäck will drop many of the old players from the starting eleven and give the younger ones a chance to get used to playing together. I read in newspaper today Sweden would try 4-5-1 formation, don't know if that was only speculation but I certainly hope so.

Anyway, I hope he intend to use the following formation:

......................Ibrahimovic
......................Elmander(Källström )
Ljungberg.....Källström(A.Svensson)..... .Wilhelmsson
.....................Linderoth
Edman.......Mellberg K.Svensson.......Stenman
.....................Isaksson

But that will require Ibrahimovic to perform.

Spain and Sweden/Denmark through for me

I agree with most of what you say but I think you contradict yourself with that line-up...dropping old farts means not calling the likes of Linderoth, Andreas Svensson and above all the disastrous Mellberg.

Well, Denmark is the only country besides Germany to have participated at all the Euro finals since 1984 and I doubt this tradition is going to change in 2008, with very interesting new players (especially Daniel Agger, Thomas kahlenberg, Nicklas Bendtner) as an addition to all the more well known faces and the few other fairly new players who turned up (a little too late) at the end of the WC-06 qualifiers and really showed their worth (Søren Larsen and Michael Gravgaard)... and then ofcause Peter Løvenkrands is finally back from injury and looking good...

The fact is that Denmark now have atleast two players of around the same class in almost every position on the team, meaning that this is the strongest looking Danish squad since the team that played quarterfinals against Brazil at the WC-98 finals.

Except for the leftback position, where we have Niclas Jensen (Fulham) who rarely plays. And Jan Kristiansen (Nürnberg) who is more of a leftwinger than leftback.

Goalkeeper:

Jesper Christiansen/Thomas Sørensen

Thomas Sørensen has been out of form the past two seasons, and imo Jesper should be our first goalie.

Rightback:

Lars Jacobsen/Brian Priske

Imo they are equally good, but i prefer Lars Jacobsen.

Leftback:

Niclas Jensen/Jan Kristiansen

Niclas is clearly our first choice IF he plays for his club.

Centrebacks:

Michael Gravgaard/Daniel Agger/Per Krøldrup/Martin Laursen/Per Nielsen/Bo Svensson

Krøldrup and Agger should be first choice starters, and Gravgaard our first sub.

Defensive Midfielder:

Christian Poulsen/Rasmus Würtz

Christian Poulsen is our man!

Attacking midfielder:

Thomas Gravesen/Claus Jensen/Thomas Kahlenberg

Thomas should be our first choice if he finds a club.

Leftwinger:

Thomas Kahlenberg/Martin Jørgensen/Peter Løvenkrands

I really want Thomas Kahlenberg to play.

Rightwinger:

Jesper Grønkjær/Dennis Rommedahl/Martin Jørgensen

Grønkjær is our main winger

Support Striker:

Jon Dahl Tomasson/Claus Jensen/Thomas Kahlenberg

Jon Dahl is still our best attacker, sadly.

Main Striker:

Søren Larsen/Nicklas Bendtner/Jon Dahl Tomasson

Søren Larsen should be our main striker, which leaves JDT as our support striker. And Bendtner still needs to learn, he's still only 18 years old.

What's your view on our squad Ceres?

I more or less agree, except that you perhaps forgot Morten Skoubo as an option (for the bench) in attack and also Leon Andreasen should be good enough to be a very good bench option for especially the DM position if he finally get to play more games for Werder Bremen.

As for our Centrebacks then I find Gravgaard/Agger to be a slightly better option (because of Gravgaards skills in attack), but with Krøldrup and Martin Laursen to be about equally good options. If they are fit to play that is.... Quite funny, since this position was our big weakness in the WC-06 qualifiers because of the many injuries, but now we look stronger than ever.
