New Sporting fan?

I have never been a fan of any one club. But if there is one club in Portugal that is a pleasure to watch, it has to be Sporting. I am partial to any of the Lisbon teams, but Sporting holds a special place in my heart lately.

It's such a pleasure watching young players such as Fernandes, Quaresma, and Christiano Ronaldo making an impact. The Sporting factory keeps churning them out, keep up the good work!

To be honest, the talent Sporting grooms was something that attracted me to them, too (along with their 18 Red Sox like quest for the title). This crop of talent could be even better than the young guys we had 8 years ago (Figo, peixe, Sousa, Balakov etc...) Not all portuguese, but came to prominence with the green and white.

Yo, Fee-go, succumb to the power and be sportinguista. This forum needs all the active members it can find.

My father was a Benfiquista. I, like many young Acoreanos grew up liking the red and white. It's natural for Acoreanos.

I just had a though, I remember an English web site recently had an article after Portugal won the right to stage Euro 2004. The article stated that it was quite a undertaking for such a small countries with only 2 recognizable football teams. Almost 3. The third they said was Sporting.

That was less than 2 years ago. I don't think anyone would say that today. Sporting has become almost as recognizable as Benfica in international football lately and shows no sign of stopping.

Well, after the 18 year drought and futility, I can see why some would call Sporting the third "almost" team, but from a historical standpoint Sporting are as big and as important as the others. Of course, playing in the same city as Benfica and their umpteen trophies makes it hard not to be a bit in the shadow.

Certainly Sporting does a nice job with the young talents.
It takes risk but also profits.
