Sporting v. Moreirense Thread

Well, the season starts today! Though I can't say I really want him back, Jardel has been called up for today's game. I can't say how effective he'll be, but then again he doesn't run much anyway.

Injuries: Rui Bento and Luis Filipe are out injured, while Hugo is (Thankfully!) suspended for this match due to his red card in Braga.

Moreirense is a recently promoted team, but they proved to be a handful for Benfica a few weeks back, and could do the same today. Watch out for former Sporting player Afonso Martins on Moreirense's left wing.

Possible Line-up (with Jardel):
Nelson: Beto; Contreras, Quiroga, Rui Jorge; Paulo Bento, Carlos Martins; Quaresma, Tonito, Kutuzov; Jardel.

(and without Jardel):
Nelson: Beto, Contreras, Quiroga, Rui Jorge; Paulo Bento, Carlos Martins; Quaresma, Tello, Tonito; Kutuzov.

30' [1 - 0] Kutuzov

33' [2 - 0] Cristiano Ronaldo

90' [3 - 0] Cristiano Ronaldo

Sporting finally win again. Woo Hoo!!!

I wish they'd show the matches on RTPi more often because I really don't know much about our young players. Seems like we have some good ones.

Seems to me that this Christiano Ronaldo kid is a keeper. Until a Spanish or Italian team picks him up anyway.

Well that takes us into second in the league(if you go by points). So as long as Porto loses we can ease our way back into competition next week, but their drawing at the moment.

Like I said, I really feel the season started today for us. I didn't realize till today just how many offensive weapons we have: Quaresma, Tonito, Barbosa, Luis Filipe, JVP, Sa , Ronaldo, Kutuzov, Niculae, Carlos Martins, Tello. However, these weapons really start to stand out because of Jardel. He does very little out there in terms of movement or ball control, yet defenses pay alot of attention to him. So much so that it opens up space for those other guys to exploit. Case in point on the first 2 goals.

However, the man of the match was without a doubt Ronaldo. I didn't see or hear the game, but my dad was raving about him. I also highly suggest that each of you check out a copy of his 1st goal tonight. My jaw hit the floor!!!! He took the ball about 35-40 yards out, dribbled past 3 defenders, broke another defender's ankles at the top of the 18, and calmly chipped the ball over a sliding keeper. It was pure joy, and reminded me of that goal Figo scored against Denmark prior to Euro2000.

Just saw the goal on the web. AMAZING. Could he have moved his feet any faster at the last moments with the ball!?!

I'm sorry, but what's this "We" BS???? Sorry, son, that's not how it works around here. Man cannot serve 2 masters; he either loves one or hates the other, so sayeth the Lord. It's either Sporting, Benfica, or neither, but not both.

You don't want to be in the middle of the road when to comes to this rivalry; Beside, that stretch of the Segunda Circular is one of most dangerous highways in Portugal.

You can nae make me choose! But if I was TRULY forced to pick it'd probably be Sporting as I'd like to be the only Sportingista in the family lol. Too many Benfiquistas and Portistas.

I was fortunate enough to catch today's game and I thought Scp played pretty good!!

They were moving the ball around so good and it is true, Jardel does make a huge difference!!

He did not get on the scoresheet and looked rather clumsy and out of sync but he is still a threat!!!

He opens up space for those young dudes Ronaldo, quaresma, tello etc and that is why he is so valuable!!

I hope Scp can turn it around and use this game to boost there confidence!!

I was really impressed with Rodrigo Tello!!
The guy is playing with so much confidence this year!!

#25 will be back soon

scpdude : How was Niculae today, I'm worried about his progression after coming back from that huge injury...

Niculae only came in late into the game when jardel came off!

He looks good as new and is always a threat but still needs to work on his finishing!!

Niculae is a great player. He seems to have a good attitude and the players and fans love him judging from the response he received from them while he was injured.

I think he will be a staple for the Romanian NT in years to come.

I agree!!!

I can still remember the 1st goal he scored in a Scp uniform against Fc porto off a header to lead Scp to a 1-0 win on opening day last season!!!

I knew after that goal that this guy was for real!!!
