Sporting v. Leixoes - 2002 Super Taša

It's the first official trophy of the season!!! Just like last year, they're only playing 1 game, as opposed to the 2-leg set up in previous seasons.

4:00 pm (Portugal Time) at the Estadio Bonfim, in Setubal. I believe the game is on RTPi.

Probable Lineups:

Sporting: (4-2-3-1) - Tiago; Contreras, Beto, Quiroga, Rui Jorge; Paulo Bento, Rui Bento; Quaresma, Barbosa (c), Tonito; Niculae.

Leixoes (4-3-3) - Rui Marcos; JosÚ Antˇnio, Nuno Silva ,SÚrgio, NenÚ; Guerra, AbÝlio, Bruno China; Antchouet, Pedras, Zamorano

A couple of guys to watch on Leixoes: Antchouet and Zamorano. Antchouet is a Gabon international who is way to good to be playing in the 2B division. He was very impressive in last year's Cup final. Zamorano is a 20 year old winger and a very good prospect. He's been capped numerous times at the Youth NT level.

Zamorano? The fromer sub-18 who played at Felguiras?

I'm anxious to see how Antchouet plays.

Great goal by C.Martins
and Kutuzov looks like a great recruit , but should try and spend more time up front and not in the middle of the park.
even though the result our midfield was poor.
Tonito has got skill but does not defend and i don't like that.
Did you guys see who was captain for most of the game
Quaresma

I say 2-0 Sporting. They'll want to win, but they don't want to wear themselves out because of the Champions League.

Well, it really looks like Leixoes' great performance in the final last season was a fluke....that combined with their inevitable bounce from the UEFA cup after drawing with that Macedonian club, and not to mention that there won't be a Portuguese club in the CL this year means that, well...you know..

I thought not having Jardel and JVP was gonna destroy us but really it has opened up the door to the youngsters who can indeed hang with the big boys!

I'm sure the other teams in the Primeira are happy there is no Jardel and JVP but they should be careful for what they wish for! Cuz we's still thumpin' teams!

How is Cesar Prates a new man or what? He has been great in the early goings so far and he is like a gazelle in the open field!

That goal by Kutuzov was gutsy. Love the way that guy carries the ball and bull dozes his way through opposition. Earlier in the game he came close to scoring the same way in the first half when he weaved in an out of their defense, shaking off the holds of three or four guys.

Nice for Sporting to win, but let's face it, they weren't in much of a fight. Leixoes folded and at least three of our goals would have been stopped by a competent gk.

Yep, that's where I'm from.

Which Univ are you thinking about going to, Laurier or Waterloo? My gf is in her final year at Laurier right now, she loves the school...

How about a piece of ass hair and some lint?? I don't think Sporting will want to stress there squad as much as they can go, you have to play smart, endurant, football. If they go all out they will be sore for a week, if they go only even 10 percent they can win it. If Sporting is smart at all they'll pace it.
