Osvaldo Silva - R.I.P.

Portuguese soccer has lost another legend:

Goal scoring forward, Brazilian International, and former coach Osvaldo Silva has died at the age of 68.

Silva first came to Portugal in 1957 with Porto. He then moved across the Douro to Leixoes, where he played an instrumental part in their shocking 1962 Cup win. In the Cup final, he scored the winning goal against his former team, Porto.

However, Silva's greatest acheivements came with Sporting. He helped lead Sporting to the 1964 Cup Winner's Cup (the only Portuguese to ever win this trophy!). In the quarterfinal leg against Manchester United, Silva scored a fantastic hatrick to led Sporting to a 5-0 home win after having lost the 1st leg 4-1 in Old Trafford!

He later went on to hold various coaching positions within Sporting, most notably serving as head coach during Sporting's 1973/74 championship/cup winning season.
