Gil Vicente vs Sporting - 2001/02 Portuguese League

Anybody have news or pre-game on this? The official site and teh papers don't say much. I can't see us losing this. Jardel is in full freak mode and the boys keep getting him the ball. No recent injuries that I know of, so I expect business as usual.

The Gil goal was atrocious. How does Tiago get beat in the near post by a mediocre header?

The Gil goalie was on fire. Stopped two point blank shots that should have been goals.

This will add some fire to the league but I still think that Sporting will be champion.

Man, just when I was about to start a "Tiago for the NT" thread, he goes and allows in a crap goal like the one today!

To his defense, it did look like Paulo Alves might have fouled the defender when he scored that goal.

Well, I just chalk this game up to being unlucky; we were due some bad luck. We played like crap until Gil scored. After that, Sporting turned it on we had our fair amount of chances.

Barbosa continues to play hard; he's really pushing for a WC slot. Also, if I didn't know him better, I would swear Beto has been playing right back his whole career. If he keeps this up, he might displace Frechaut on the NT!

"I can' t see us losing this one",ah?-you didn't, but....

This game (like any other) could have ended in a goleada (like 4-0 or something), or in a wee surprise....my people, futebol fans, listen to me ,why do you keep saying things like "this should be an easy win for us" or this or that, before a game ends, before it even starts? You should know how futebol is...this is not a different case, this is only one more case.Didn't Benfica "planned" to win to Setúbal? Didn't Porto "planned" to win to I-don't-know-who!-there-are-a-lot-already ?...well, sometimes things don't work out like we plan. This time Gil was the galo and took Sporting's first position away.I only ask them to do the same next week again

I haven't had the change to see the goals yet, neither any comments on it, but last night, when the game ended I was listening the final part on the radio, and let me say, Boloni seemed like another man ...you should hear the scream he made (I am not sure to whom it was directed, maybe the ref).....the commentators were shocked too ...and hummm, did Jardel play? Who was the one to stop Jardel, who was?GILLL

Paulo Jorge, our keeper is a great keeper,I've said it all along. He makes a few mistakes once in a while, but he is Good!

Ah, shaddap.

I said this should be an easy win for us because Gil Vicente blows and Sporting have been unbeatable as of late. But, as you say, anything can happen when the ball starts rolling.

We missed several opprtunities to extend our lead..Sad to see us lose a game which seem simple. Goes to show anybody can pull a win/draw. All blame goes to front line I say :depress:

-Well be back in no time! I ain't sweatin' it! The only thing between us winning the title is Boavista and playing them at the Bessa will be key!

-Games like this happen and eventually I knew we were going to lose some points so it's good it happened now rather then later cuz we got plenty of time to get back on top were we belong, isso e claro como agua!!!!

Viva O Sporting!!!!

Gil's goalie made some nice saves! He made a nice one on Nazilitis and on Jardel point blank range! JVP really F*cked one up right in the beginning of the game! Not to mention Pedro Barbosa alone in the box and he heads it way over the goal! We were very unlucky!
