Ojogo has a good article in today's paper about the prospects who played in Tuesday's game against Romania. You can read it Here.

Here is my 1st summary on one of our prospects:

Paíto -

Position: Left Back
Country: Mozambique
Age: 18 (maybe 19?)

A true diamond in the rough. He was scouted and recommended to Sporting by none other than Hilario Conceiçao, arguably the greatest left-back to ever play for Sporting and Portugal. Plays left-back in the mold of Roberto Carlos: strong, speedy, attacks with flair, and has a cannon for a left leg!

Paito has already been called up to practice with the main squad and made his debut in the Cup Quarter-Final against Vila Real. Boloni's confidence in him faciliated Dimas' loan to Marselha.

That's sounds great.
Do we still own Vinicius? Did we sell him or loan him?
Anyway Rui i think is easily one of the top 3 left backs in europe with Roberto Carlos and Riise.
Anyway SCP B beat Atletico 4-1 yesterday

Sporting B: 4 - Atletico: 1

Another big win for the "B"s! Lourenço scored 2, while Gisvi and Luis Dias pitched in with the other 2 goals. Both Gisvi and Lourenço have already seen time with the 1st team this year.

In the Standings, we are now in 3rd place, eight points behind Camacha and 4 points behind Uniao da Madeira.

I don't know about Vinicius. I think we sold him this past summer, but I am not sure to whom.

I am not sure if they can or not. I think the best they can do is get promoted to the 2nd liga. They definitely cannot move up to the 1st liga. I know in Spain, Atletico's B team was playing in the 2nd division until the main team got relegated 2 years ago.

B Team Results

Olivais e Moscavide, 2 - Sporting B, 0

Tough loss to another local Lisbon club! The B's had a depleted roster due to injuries and the fact that 3 main players (Gisvi, Afsonso Martins, Custodio) were called up to the main squad. We had very few options up front on attack.

However, Sporting B still sits pretty in 3rd place behind the 2 Madeirense sides, Camacha and Uniao Madeira.

Big Injury!!!

Luis Lourenço, top scored of the B team and one of our brightest prospects, had surgery on Friday to repair a torn cruciate ligament in his knee. Obviously, this is not an injury you want to see a 19 yr. old! He will be out for the rest of the season, and he might not be 100% until early next season.

This is terrible because he has already played a few games for the main squad, and even had an outside chance at making the U-21 European Championship team this summer.

Golden Shoe Latest: Jardel Back In The Zone?

Golden Shoe Latest: Jardel Back In The Zone?
News Archive

03/04/2002. Sporting's Mario Jardel netted twice against Braga on Saturday to increase his lead at the top of Europe's top goalscorer chart to 5 points. Brazilian raider Jardel has now netted 30 times in the Portuguese league this season.

Joint second-placed Thierry Henry was unable to keep pace after missing Arsenal's clash with Newcastle United with a groin strain. Piacenza's Dario Hubner now joins the former Juve striker in chasing Jardel after scoring a double against Venezia on Sunday. The 34 year-old's 8 strikes in the last 5 games may not impress Azzurri coach Trapattoni but if the veteran can continue this form he would be named European and Serie A top scorer - a sure way to prove the nazionale coach wrong.

The other title chasers Pauleta and Ruud Van Nistelrooy had less emphatic weekends and both failed to score but the biggest climber is Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert who hit a treble during Barcelona's 5-1 dismissal of Malaga. The Oranje forward jumps 22 places to 16th.

Luis Lourenco is supposed to be really good. I f you can produce young players like Quaresma and Viana and Benfica and Porto can also produce young players like they can then Portugal will have a great national team after Figo and Costa are gone.

Luis Lourenço is in the Top 5 of the best young Portuguese strikers. I see him play with Hélder Postiga in the sub-18 tournament (Portugal win !!!) he's very good. After the gold generation (Figo, Rui ...) we will have the greatest team in the world with Postiga, Lourenco, Hugo Leal, Ednilson :eekani: ...

I've got a shirt Vinicius wore in an SCP game.

I thought he was gonna be a nice player till he tore up his knee, kinda a left sided Cesar Prates - isn't he still at Liege?

The "B" Team started practice this week for their upcoming season. They had a great season last year where they finished 2nd in the South region of Divison 2B. (In contrast, Benfica B got relegated!!!! )

There has been a lot of turnover in the roster, but it is still very strong with lots of youngsters:

GK: Alemăo, Fábio Ferreira e Hugo Tecelăo

Defense: Carlos Marques, Fábio Costa, Fernando Dinis, Hugo Valdir, Joăo Nunes, Ricardo Marques (Mangualde) e Tiago Almeida

Midfield: Hugo Machado, Hugo Moutinho, Miguel Garcia, Miguel Paixăo e Miguel Pinheiro

Forwards: Edgar Marcelino, Gisvi, Hugo Pina, Joăo Paiva, Lourenço e Yannick Djaló

Names to watch out for:

Carlos Marques: Very good Central Defender and captain of the U-18 NT.
Hugo Valdir and Mangualde - Left and Right Backs, respectively. Have already practiced with the Senior squad.
Edgar Marcelino - haven't seen him play, but he is a regular on the youth NT.
Joao Paiva - prolific scorer at the youth level, can he make the jump?
Yannick Djalo - He is playing for the B team, but he's only 15 years old!!!!!! Boloni already even gave him a run in a couple of post-season friendlies last May. Matter of fact, he scored a goal against Alverca in the final friendly of the year!

He is from Guinea-Bissau, though he has been living in Portugal since a very young age.

If he is that good, I suspect he might opt for Portuguese Citizenship, just like Makukula recently got.

Edgar Marcelino has great technique!!! I've saw him play a couple of times and he really made an impression. Just needs to develop his physical structure to keep up the high rithm of his game during the 90 mins.

But your best guy is by far Valdir, an amazing left-back that together with Paíto will make SCP's left wing one of the most powerfull in the world if they have the chance to play together in the A team.

Carlos Marques is a good libero...
