This last week made it clear, for those that still had any doubts, that this season's league title is already reserved for the red side of Lisbon. It was clear after reading the magnificent interview given by Vítor Pereira, the godfather sole responsible for appointing refs in our league. One could think that he is a serious contender to the presidential elections at Benfica, such was his agreement with all the opinions expressed by that club.
Afterwards it was also clear with the timing and the decision of opening an enquiry against Slimani (for an incident in the match against Benfica which happened almost 3 months ago) and at the same time the non-acceptance of any of the complaints made by Sporting against SLB players for similar reasons in that same match.
Finally, the cherry on top of the cake: it is apparently OK for a club in Portugal (Benfica in this case) to offer dinners to all the referees, assistants and LPFP delegates in all their home matches. Amazing stuff.

From our side we can only answer to all this with playing good football and winning matches, which is actually the reason why they're attacking us from all sides.

Tonight we face one of the weakest sides in our league, Académica. We will miss three of our regular starters - Paulo Oliveira (suspended), Jefferson and Bruno César (both with muscle injuries). JJ will probably bring on Ewerton, Marvin and Gelson Martins for their places.

Let's hope for a win and for another gigantic show of support by Alvalade.

Two surprises by JJ:

Rúben Semedo, who just returned to the club this week after his loan at Vitória de Setúbal, goes straight to the starting line-up in the place of the suspended Paulo Oliveira.

Carlos Mané, who was according to the press on his way out of the club but whose departure was stopped by JJ, gets a rare start this season in the place of the injured Bruno César.

As expected Marvin Zeegelaar gets his first start in the league replacing Jefferson who is also injured.

*******

Subs: 26 Azbe Jug, 5 Ewerton, 47 Ricardo Esgaio, 6 Aquilani, 60 Gelson Martins, 73 Matheus Pereira and 10 Fredy Montero.

1-0 to Académica by Rafa Soares after 8'. A corner, that they won by luck, and a well drafted goal.

At 13' a blatant penalty for us not called. Carlos Mané completely alone in front of the keeper is pushed from behind by a defender. Not called.

Huge goal chance at 28' with a great shot by Bryan Ruiz being very well saved by the keeper.

Spectacular solo goal by Adrien dribbling a defender inside the box and unleashing a crossed shot with no defence. 1-1 at 30'.

Right before the 2-1 JJ was sent off from the bench for protesting a ridiculous yellow card shown to Adrien. Something he never did when he was at a service of another club in the past 6 seasons, of course.

A very hectic first half filled with goals, a penalty not called, ridiculous refereeing and some moments of very nice football, ie. a Sporting match.

We conceded a weird goal from a corner very early, more thanks to the well drafted set piece by Académica than due to our mistake, but our reaction was very strong. Sporting played with pace, thanks to some very good combinations on the right side between Joăo Pereira and Carlos Mané and on the left with Marvin Zeegelaar, who really is a very good addition to our squad. Our good game was also influenced by the usual class of Joăo Mário, Bryan Ruiz and, above all tonight, Adrien. Our captain scored a great goal and was always pivotal in most of what we did well so far.

One last word for the bald man with the whistle. One penalty not called in our favour, a ridiculous yellow to Adrien and the subsequent sending off of our coach. They really can't disguise it this season.

Unbelievable. Académica scores on a blatant offside. Firstly the linesman seems to call the offside but afterwards he changes his mind and gives the goal. We are being soooo robbed.
