************

Today we reach the end of the first half of this league and no matter what happens we will be on top, something that in the past was always a sign that at the end of the season we would also finish in that position.

We will host the team that recently kicked us out of the Cup in a great game that could easily have ended with a win for any of the two sides. That was the 3rd game in the space of 7 days and that was a Cup tie. Today, everything will be different. Surely Braga will be a tough opponent but as JJ said yesterday in the pre-match press conference, Sporting is passing through our top form curve thus we are indeed favourites.

Another huge crowd expected in Alvalade for another epic show of support.

No surprises in the starting XI with Bruno César keeping his place:

Here's a pearl from the past. Manuel Fernandes is the top ever scorer in this tie with 13 goals including 3 hat-tricks. Here's the highlights of one of those (8-1 in 84/85). They were made by RAI and look who was commentating them...

Sporting scores but it was offside. Mad first 10' with lots of speed.

At 14' a huge chance for Sporting with a fantastic tabelinha between Adrien and João Mário but the keeper made a miraculous save.

At 28' another great chance for Sporting this time with Slimani failing to beat the keeper on a 1 on 1.

At 35' Paulo Oliveira hits the post with a header after a corner and somehow the keeper manages to save when the ball was going in.

True. Braga needed to make 7 or 8 tough fouls before seeing a yellow. Sporting needed...one.

At 41' Braga makes 1-0 through Wilson Eduardo, of course. A lot of hesitation in our defence inside the box this time.

Just like it happened in the Cup game Braga's style of play is posing lots of problems to our game but also like in that match they can't complain from lack of luck. The first 10' showed a really cheeky Braga but after that first huge goal chance created by João Mário they started to be more careful. Sporting felt that and pressed more creating another two huge goal chances through Slimani and Paulo Oliveira. The last 5' of the first half brought two Braga goals, both well made by their attack but obviously not reflecting in the scoreline what happened inside the picth.

A huge task is ahead of Sporting in this second half, let's see what we can get out of it.

One more huge goal chance wasted by Sporting this time Bryan Ruiz shot saved by the keeper.
