SPORTING CP 1-3 Lokomotiv Moscow (RUS)
(Montero 50'; Samedov 12', 56', Niasse 65')

**********************

Sporting starts its participation in this season's Europa League tonight against another Russian side. It's true Lokomotiv have nothing to do with the robbery that happened in the two CL play-off matches against their neighbours of CSKA but the feelings towards Russians right now in Alvalade are let us say comparable to those felt right now in large parts of Ukraine, which means all in the club are very motivated to win this one.

Having said so, and in spite of the fact that both our coach and our captain said yesterday on the pre-match press conference that we aim to reach the final, in this season we have a clear number one objective and that is to win the domestic league. This means that the EL will come as a second aim so it will not be surprising if JJ will do changes in the usual line-up.

One change will surely happen and that is not linked with technical or tactical options. Carrillo has been involved in a nauseating neverending saga about his contract talks and Sporting sent him and his pimp a clear message today by not calling him for today's match. There is a huge amount of news pollution surrounding this affair so it's almost impossible to know what is really going on but it starts to look like the version that says he is dragging things in order to keep on playing until the end of his contract in June and then leave for feck all is the correct one. If that is the case then he will be a great acquisition for our B team playing in the second division. No player is bigger than the club.

So, here's the group of players called by Jorge Jesus for tonight's match:

You guys are handing the Carrillo situation just terribly, IMO. I'd say the same thing if it was Porto's best attacker too.

Bruno met with Carrillo for lunch two days ago. Your club even made a point of saying it was about good relations and showing the good nature between both parties. The next day, rumors of Carrillo being frozen out of all first team competitions due to not agreeing to renew his contract.

Something is very fishy here, but either way it just doesn't look good. You have lunch with the guy and then hold him hostage to sign a new contract(with much lower wages than he is being offered elsewhere), telling him he can't play until he signs. His value is being lowered by not playing, his attitude with the club continues to worsen by being frozen out, and most importantly, your club suffers as your best attacking player isn't available due to politics.

JJ makes 5 changes from the team that started the last two league matches.

João Pereira is back as RB in the place of Esgaio.
Tobias gets some valuable playing time instead of Naldo.
Wizzkid Gelson replaces Carrillo.
Carlos Mané comes in for the place of the obviously knackered Bryan Ruiz.
Montero finally gets some time and gives Slimani a rest.

JJ, "the man that does not like to play young players from the academy"...

handling it terribly? How so? We have offered him several opportunities to renew with us. Nearly everyone else on the squad has renewed. If he truly wanted to leave, he could have handed in his transfer request when SCP received the 12 million bid from Leicester City. SCP rejected the offer, which leads me to believe they were confident in resigning Carrillo and reports came out that Carrillo verbally agreed to an extension. That's where Carrillo sewer rat agent comes in. We have done everything on out end to the best of our abilities and in a professional manner. Not our fault he wants to be a prick after verbally agreeing to an extension. We dealt with this sh*t with Bruma, and the fact that we have Gelson and Mane further add to the fact that Carrillo can fvck off back to Peru is he has problem with our offer.

$2 million in wages plus a singing bonus. Wtf else does he want? He is under contract and if he wants to renege on his verbal agreement and hold HIS EMPLOYER THAT HE IS CONTRACTED WITH hostage, then fvck him. Best attacking player?! Shows how much you know. Mane and Gelson would fill in admirably. The only thing that upsets about this situation is losing out on Cervi to Benfica and the fact that Carrillo could sign with a rival. We are not going to financially burden ourselves for this moron. We just had the most profitable year in the club's history and had it not been for the Russian Mob and their circle-jerk with UEFA, Slimani's goal would have put us in the Champions League and we'd be $12 million richer. We work within our means. We are a club, and Carrillo is just an employee of the club.

As I said in my op we really don't know what is REALLY going on and unless you have installed a bug in Sporting's stadium and/or academy I'd say that whatever you are saying here is pure speculation.

Now based on that premise the only thing where I feel Sporting was wrong was in the fact that we didn't start the whole process earlier but even on that point there is a lot of noise saying, for instance, that things didn't start rolling earlier not because the club didn't try but because the player's agents (yes, they are more than one) never reacted to the many calls to start negotiations made by the club.

In one thing we definitely agree: there is something very fishy here but I think I know which ones are the rotten fish in this story.

0-1 to Lokomotiv at 12' through Samedov. A misplaced pass in our attacking midfield was quickly transformed into a goal. Tobias was slow to react.

Very poor first half from Sporting with an overall lack of attacking interplay between just about everybody upfront. It's clear that these players that started tonight are not used to play with each other but also some of them seem just not being up for it at all. Lokomotiv are lucky to be ahead because they barely attacked but to be honest we also couldn't create any real dangerous goal chance. Montero is invisible, Mané seems too stuck to the wing, Aquilani doesn't seem too comfortable with that false 10 position. Gelson had some good moments though and Adrien was our best player which is great because in the last few matches he's been playing pretty bad.

If we want to turn this one around JJ will have to make some changes very soon so I think Slimani, and probably Bryan Ruiz too, will have to come in sooner rather than later.

JJ simply does not care about Europe. I have read this story before.

True. That's why he took Benfica to two CL QFs and two EL finals. :rollani:

JJ values Europe, but he made it out of the CL group stage once.

Sporting playing much much faster in this start of the second half and here's the result. Mané opens space inside the box and Montero sends a bomb to Rossija. 1-1 at 50'.
