The 2015/16 season starts today with a trophy that Sporting won 7 out of 8 times. The fact that the first official game of Jorge Jesus at the command of Sporting will be against the club where he worked for the last 6 seasons obviously makes of this derby one even more special than what already is. The spotlights will be on him but maybe it's now a good idea to remember who is the man that gives the name to this trophy: the great Cândido de Oliveira.

Cândido de Oliveira: o Mestre
04/05/2011
by João Pedro Silveira in zerozero.pt

Teo Gutierrez scores and the ref disallows it for offside. It wasn't. It should have counted.

A first half played at full speed in spite of the scorching heat. Sporting was better, scored a goal (wrongly disallowed), created several other goal chances and showed overall better football. Benfica also did well, at least better than what many people expected, also had a couple of chances but it's clear they are miles away from what they used to do under JJ.

I don't believe the rhythm will be as high in the second half and some players will pay for these frenetic first 45'. I think Sporting would gain a lot from having Montero instead of Teo.

Finally we break the deadlock! After starting the second half totally on top, Carrillo shoots from far the ball touches Teo and goes past Júlio César. 1-0 at 53'

Only annoyance is that it should be 2-0. Then I'd feel a lot safer with my bet Got a feeling Benfica will make it 1-1 and take it to added time.
