Taça 14/15, SF2/ SPORTING 1-0 Nacional (3-2 on agg.)/ Alvalade, 08.04.2015, 21:00 CET

Taça de Portugal 2014/2015

Semi Finals

Second Leg

Estádio José Alvalade, Lisboa,
08.04.2015, 21:00 CET
Ref: Hugo Miguel (AF Lisboa)

vs

SPORTING CP 1-0 Nacional
(Ewerton 85')
[3-2 on aggregate]

This is arguably the most important game of the season for us. We drew 2-2 in Madeira in the first leg so we have good chances of reaching the Cup final and win it for the 16th time.

Hopefully our finishing will be more at the level of our last home match against Guimarães and less like what we showed on Saturday against Paços.

Here's the starting line-up:

1 Rui Patrício

13 Miguel Lopes - 26 Paulo Oliveira - 5 Ewerton - 4 Jefferson

14 William Carvalho

17 João Mário - 23 Adrien

18 Carrillo - 9 Slimani - 77 Nani

Subs:
22 Marcelo Boeck, 55 Tobias Figueiredo, 41 Cédric, 8 André Martins, 36 Carlos Mané, 17 Fredy Montero and 18 Tanaka.

First real goal chance of the game coming for us at 29' with Slimani's header going straight at the keeper.

Second dangerous situation for Sporting at 33' with the exact same players: Carrillo sends a great cross from the left and Slimani's header this time goes wide.

Great goal chance for Sporting at 40' with Slimani launching João Mário but his lob finishes on top of the goal. Much better Sporting in this last quarter.

Great save by Rui Patrício after a dangerous long range shot. In the follow-up Sporting creates danger once again after a great ride by Nani but his last pass was poor.

There were two types of Sporting during this first half.

In the first 25' we saw the team missing passes, playing slowly, almost like a continuation of that really poor second half of the last game at Paços.

In the last 20' things changed for the better. Carrillo, much better than Nani so far, switched to the left side and started creating danger with his speed and his quality crossing. Slimani missed two great chances and afterwards we still had a couple more great occasions of opening the score before the break.

Nacional had a couple of dangerous long range shots but for a team that needs to win they showed very little.

Second half starts with a bad offside call going against us.

At 51' danger on both ends. First Nacional creating danger after a corner and on the counter Sporting creating danger too.

Great attacking move at 60' with Carrillo's cross being missed by an inch by Slimani.

First sub for us:

Carlos Mané IN for João Mário

Finally at 85' Sporting breaks the bank. Jefferson crosses from a free kick on the right and Ewerton heads in. Jamor here we come!

It wasn't pretty but we made it. A second half practically played only on Nacional's half but our attacking players are really going through a poor period of form. It's difficult to accept so many missed chances but the truth is that we were the better side in both legs and truly deserve to be in the final.

Great debut as a scorer by Ewerton and also a good game by Carrillo (a true mystery his substitution) and Jefferson.
