Liga 14/15 J20| SPORTING 1-1 Benfica| Alvalade, 08.02.2015, 21:00 CET

Primeira Liga 2014/2015

Jornada 20

Estádio José Alvalade, 08.02.2015, 21:00 CET
Ref: Jorge Sousa (AF Porto)
49,076 att.

vs

SPORTING CP 1-1 Benfica
(Jefferson 88'; Jardel 90'+4')

There's no game like this one. On top of the 108 years of history of this fierce rivalry, "O Derbi" this year does seem to be decisive for what is left to play in this league. We are 7 points behind them which means that a win for us would relaunch us into the title challenge. Regardless all the above, this game will always be special and it will be tight.

Both sides have strong points but both sides have also weak ones and it is interesting that some of those clash with each other. Sporting's midfield is right now better and more experiences than Benfica's one. Our CBs on the other hand are both very young and inexperienced and will face two dangerous and experienced forwards. We are not that good defending on set pieces whereas they are pretty good scoring from them. Our attacking trio is very mobile and very fast, their full backs are slow and full of fouls in them. And then there is Artur...

Anyway, I just hope we will have an exciting match, full of good football, with no interference from the ref and no extra pitch news, on the contrary to the incredibly disgusting stuff offered yesterday by Benfica's supporters during this same derby in futsal played in their sports hall. Showing a banner celebrating the killing of a Sporting fan by a Benfica ultra in the Cup final of 96 is really too low to understand.

Here's a video that does show what means to be a sportinguista...

No, he wasn't called. He came out from injury but played yesterday for the B team and scored a goal.

Arthur is in net for Benfica.

He is without doubt the worst goalkeeper I have ever witnessed play Football on a professional level.

Your going to smash them!

Carvalho is oozing class, Nani has looked good too.

The Benfica left back looks horrific. Will Nani switch wings too and have a crack at him?

Yep!

I stumbled across Arthur playing against Valencia in the Emirates Cup and he made 3 howlers which prompted him to be subbed for a 3rd choice keeper who never plays, Gary Mcallister was the co-commentator and I can still remember his exact words as Arthur got subbed "I don't know how he can call his occupation a goalkeeper!".

This match is decent so far.

Soon as Sporting have a decent shot at goal, it's going in!

This keeper on a scale of 1/10 is a 0.

Well, I said this was going to be a tight one and indeed it was. A huge battle in the midfield with almost no space nor time to play the ball, something that is forcing us to play direct but is also forcing Benfica to practically only defend. JJ came here to get a draw, there is no doubt about it. No goal chances so far but we had the upper hand with more shots, more corners, more time playing in their midfield but no real danger so far.

William is ruling that midfield like a boss but we need either Nani or Carrillo to go past one of those turtles as they are there for the taking.

Benfica had 0 shots on target.

You might as well be playing with no goalkeeper.

I know my good buddy Kleber is in the Benfica away end with his Pet Donkey Miguel and his Alsatian Dog Bukha. I think I saw both pet's tied up near the corner flag when Sporting had one of their many corner kicks.

Let's go Sporting in the second half!

I think you saw it wrongly. The donkey and the dog are playing and they are both being used as full backs by Benfica.

Lol who is the left-back for Benfica? He looks horrific, you need to get Nani on him.

He looks like someone stuck in the 1980's, there is a Pop singer he looks like from that era but his name escapes me for the moment.

Carvalho looks so good, shame about his colour as far as Zenit are concerned, we have kept going a darker shade of White from Bruno Alves to Witsel to Hulk and then to Rondon but that's as far as we have pushed it so far. This is not a racist comment by the way, just the way Zenit roll.
